it really does feel like the general audience’s dislike for ff16 combat is a result of sqenix just not incentivising players enough to engage with the gameplay system anymore than a casual would need for a single playthrough and let the passionate players thrive on ng+ w/ ff mode

I remember when I was doing art for a friends game/webcomic stuff in ye ancient times (I'll see if I can find it) I became obsessive with details, stitching, etc on my drawings because of Last Story's art and it was so noisy lol. FF12 had also been referenced around that time.

We should honestly point out that the Final Fantasy fandom actively does its best to exclude people from loving the series, too.

This was striking to me when I started Genshin. I did NOT expect what I imagined to be a cheap BoTW-like to flesh out its world so admirably.
The design, the lore, the music... They all play their part, allowing Genshin to truly achieve what Tolkien calls "secondary belief".
