@Super70sSports Great memories picking up the Sports section of the Sunday paper. After reading this it was watching an episode of This Week in Baseball and then outside playing whiffle ball. Those were the days!

@BBGreatMoments Two of the best to ever play the position.
English

@michaelFhurley That’s just another reason to either fully implement it or remove it completely. This is becoming a clown show.

I feel like we are days away from home plate umpires simply refusing to acknowledge ABS challenges. They’ve never been held to account in front of a small group of calm reporters, let alone 40,000 rabid fans. There’s no way they can handle this.
Shelfy@RealShelfy
Absolutely electric lmao CB Buckner noticeably annoyed when he tapped the 2nd time only to be wrong again and listen to 40,000 people cheer for his incompetence 😂
English

@Savageboston They need to make a decision, it’s either in or out. These challenges just destroy the flow of the game.
English

The system clearly works, and it makes you wonder why the MLB doesn’t simply use it all of the time.
Every pitch. Every game.
Yesterday was an embarrassment for the umpire.
Jeff Passan@JeffPassan
There are moments that offer a pretty good sense that something new is going to work. This feels like one for ABS. The Cincinnati crowd’s reaction was thunderous. And the situation itself — twice it salvaged a bases-loaded opportunity. This system plays.
English

@YankeeLineups @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan I feel like some of that ‘excitement’ might actually be sarcasm after years of frustration with umpiring more than genuine love for the system.” Time will tell.
English

@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan The flow of the game is perfectly fine because the review animation is now part of the spectacle. You saw the way the crowd reacted — there was more excitement and energy than after a homer. People are going to love it.
English

@YankeeLineups @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan I agree with that but the flow of the game will take the biggest hit. They should either implement it fulltime time or remove it completely. Whatever they choose doesn’t matter to me but the indecisiveness is painful.
English

@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan A challenge takes at most 15 seconds. And let’s assume there‘s a max of 20 challenges in a game. That means an absolute worst case of adding 5 minutes to the game. In reality, it’ll likely add more like 1-2 minutes total. This isn’t a problem.

Jason Alexander was 29 years old when #Seinfeld premiered in July 1989, making him only 38 or 39 when the series concluded in May 1998. Despite his character's older appearance, Alexander remained under 40 for the entire nine-season run of the show.

English

@jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan They have to pick a side or this is going to happen every game. They want to speed up the game but this is going to extend the game longer. This is going to be a long season if this keeps up.
English

@JeffPassan Question becomes why not have it call all balls and strikes through an ear piece or something on the umpire? Remove the challenge entirely and always get it right…
English

@BallParkBuzz And we don’t need a degree from Yale to interpret it.

Strikeouts were a major issue last season for the Red Sox. When they struck out 9 times or fewer, they were 67-31. When they struck out 10+ times, 22-42.
Boston struck out just 7 times in their Opening Day win. In yesterday’s loss the Red Sox struck out 15 times including 3 in the 2 extra innings where they did not move the Manfred man from second.
It’s a stat I’ll be following all season.

@Imfoolsgold @baseball_cards @DanClarkSports Fans have a funny way of keeping score when winning takes a backseat to profits.
English

@BostonFanRoom @baseball_cards @DanClarkSports Same way the pirates do, that sweet sweet revenue sharing money
English

@TheAthletic It means they need to implement it fulltime or remove it completely. This nonsense is destroying the flow of the game and makes every at bat a debate.
English

@baseball_cards @DanClarkSports I scratch my head how they make money each year.

Reasons to go to the Marlins:
1. Good team? No.
2. Quality players at least? Other than Sandy, no.
3. Easy to get to stadium? Absolutely not.
4. At least the prices are good? Nope. Average.
5. Do they try to make it fun presentation wise? That's a nope.
It's awful. It's a 90 minute drive for me and I won't even go to see Ohtani, but I'll fly back home to go to a game at Fenway.
English

@DanClarkSports The harsh reality is that they’ve always been fighting for relevancy in Miami with the Heat and Dolphins. They win a World Series, tear the team apart and destroy any momentum of creating a fan base. Sadly they’ve lost the fans for good.

@tylermilliken_ He showed that power in 2021 when he hit 25 HR. He could never find that consistency again. This is a good sign.
