@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan Absolutely that’s part of it, and I have no issue with that. People love that the system is sticking it to the umpires. I love it for that too. While I don’t think that’s the only reason it’s good, that is frankly a good enough reason to love it…..

@YankeeLineups @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan I feel like some of that ‘excitement’ might actually be sarcasm after years of frustration with umpiring more than genuine love for the system.” Time will tell.

There are moments that offer a pretty good sense that something new is going to work. This feels like one for ABS. The Cincinnati crowd’s reaction was thunderous. And the situation itself — twice it salvaged a bases-loaded opportunity. This system plays.

@Boston_George @bradfo That doesn’t make it completely arbitrary — the lateral calls are pretty clear cut and obvious which will probably be at least 50% what it’s used for, if not higher.

@bradfo ABS is fools gold. It’s completely arbitrary and does not align with the MLB defined strike zone vertically.

@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan The flow of the game is perfectly fine because the review animation is now part of the spectacle. You saw the way the crowd reacted — there was more excitement and energy than after a homer. People are going to love it.

@YankeeLineups @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan I agree with that but the flow of the game will take the biggest hit. They should either implement it fulltime time or remove it completely. Whatever they choose doesn’t matter to me but the indecisiveness is painful.

@j_hall70 @JeffPassan Nah if you are already reviewing it, why make the call wrong just because it’s close. You could say the same thing about a reviewed tag play — he was called safe and his finger were only 1” away from the bag so let’s keep him safe… why? Lol

@JeffPassan I think there should be a leeway for the zone. Some calls have literally been 0.1” off and over turned. If it’s that close the original call on the field should stand Set it to like 0.2” or less or something

@BostonFanRoom @jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan A challenge takes at most 15 seconds. And let’s assume there‘s a max of 20 challenges in a game. That means an absolute worst case of adding 5 minutes to the game. In reality, it’ll likely add more like 1-2 minutes total. This isn’t a problem.

@jmsteiner8 @JeffPassan They have to pick a side or this is going to happen every game. They want to speed up the game but this is going to extend the game longer. This is going to be a long season if this keeps up.

@PigTownSports @JeffPassan That ball was .3” from *barely nicking the zone* which would technically make it a strike but the reality is that unless the ball actually sits like 25% inside the zone, it looks like a ball. So that .3” probably looked like an inch off the plate.…

@brandonk_13 @cristeven @SFGiants I mean even if he bunts successfully (which isn’t a given), you’d then likely need either the 8th or 9th hitter to get a hit against one of the best closers in baseball (barring a walk or wild pitch)

@cristeven @SFGiants I was fooled to think he would consider a bunt in that situation, I mean it’s only 1 run in 27 innings! Let the 7th place hitter swing away! Fucking clueless individuals running this team.

@MamaMommyBRUH @Mann_O_Steel17 Kicking the umpires down a notch is 1000% for the better. It’s fun (frankly therapeutic, you can hear it in the crowd reactions) but also, it has real potential to deal a blow to the umpire union which has become way too strong to the point MLB couldn’t get rid of shit umpires.

@Mann_O_Steel17 I understand wanting every call to be perfect, but it's not going to be that way. At this point, why even have a human umpire? Who will want to do this job if every mistake is on display? This is a change for the worse.

I’m petty. I get it…. But I get life from watching goofs like CB Buckner, who been ruining games for years, get called to the carpet in front of 40,000 in real time 🤣🤣🤣 Only ol’ Angel Hernandez could’ve given me more satisfaction

@RedZoneRepublic @Mann_O_Steel17 Because watching umpires get completely embarrassed is amazing, especially the ones everyone hates. Have you not been hearing the crowd reactions on these challenges — it’s louder than it is during actual gameplay. People love it, why take away the fun?!

@Mann_O_Steel17 Why not just give the ump and earpiece and it tells him if it’s a ball or strike. Would be 100% accurate, keep an ump behind the plate for the human aspect, and we wouldn’t have to waste time challenging

@My3Sons_1973 @schadjoe If a pitch is 0.5” outside the zone, then that means it’s 0.5” away from literally barely nicking the box with a 3” diameter ball. Those kind of pitches should not be strikes — it’s tough enough to hit a baseball as it is. Also, you should not lose a challenge for being correct

@schadjoe I think the first one Bucknor missed in that 2-pitch sequence was 0.3" away .. I think there should be a gray buffer 0.5-0.6" inside and outside the grayzone where if the pitch is called and it hits then array then the umpire's call stands like in the NFL on very close plays

@ThatDudeLeroy @SFGiants Explain how runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out is better than runners in 1st and 2nd with no outs when you’re down 3 No one, and I mean no one, puts the bunt on in that situation

@DanteLlanten @Brink_Thinker That would mean stacking pizza slices in that way, which can make a mess and make the bread soggy particularly when the pizza is placed in a box right out of the oven. Also adds a bit of time to do the proper cutting and stacking, and many pizza places operate quickly
