Trump and Republicans' SAVE America Act isn't solving problems—it's creating them by making YOU shell out for IDs and documents like a birth certificate or passport. They want to make voting more expensive—and Democrats won't let them.

🚨 HOLY CRAP. Nick Shirley DECIMATES Gavin Newsom 🔥 “The governor of California is an ENEMY to the people of California. He’s literally working to support the fraudsters!” “He COULD be working to expose the fraud.” “How STUPID do you have to be to say ‘let’s go after the guy exposing the fraud, let’s not go after the fraudsters?’” “That is what he’s doing. Why don’t you say ‘Hey Nick, great video - how can we help?’” “These tax dollars don’t say right or left on them, Republican or Democrat. Each tax dollar is a dollar for the American people.” “And when they go and steal these dollars from us, they are not robbing liberals or Democrats, they are robbing everyone.” “Then the governor gets mad at the person exposing the fraud? How crazy do you have to be to think that logic?!” @nickshirleyy Mic drop. H/t @TVNewsNow

The SAVE Act will kick American citizens off the voter rolls. It will make it harder to participate in our democracy and vote.    This Administration should be focused on bringing down costs, not taking away the right to vote.

I completely understand and agree with your perspective. I typically have at least 2 and sometimes up to 6 road trips yearly that require me to drive over 800 miles each way. With my ICE vehicle, I'm usually able to complete these trips in 12 to 13 hours (while completely avoiding congested cities such as NYC) -a single "reasonable" albeit long day. However with a Tesla, the "most optimized" routes (due to supercharger locations) take at least 15 to 16 hours and would require me to essentially pass through NYC -which could potentially lengthen the duration of the trip even further. If I am forced to plan on a 16 hour drive, I'd have to break up the trip into two distinct segments with time to sleep between the two segments. This would drastically cut into the precious (already limited) time I get to spend with family during these trips. I realize I'm probably an edge case but this is real life.

And for the #teslarites who don’t understand 500 miles. Time is money. How long does it take to pump a tank of gas? 4-5 mins versus 30. Early last week I went up to the Yosemite area (about 300 miles.) I got up there, did my thing and got gas (5 mins) and drove back. With a Tesla. It would be drive up (maybe on one charge) charge up 20-30 mins, do my thing. Drive back, stop along the way to recharge (again probably another 20 mins…) That’s too long. 500 would be one recharge so it’s 10 mins gas versus 29-30 mins which I would consider.🤷🏼

The vertical integration moat here is genuinely unprecedented in tech history. No other company on the planet touches every layer of the stack from silicon to deployment at scale. Apple comes closest in consumer electronics, but they don't operate a real-world data flywheel with millions of units feeding back into the model daily.

The SAVE Act (e.g., H.R. 22) allows U.S. citizens to prove citizenship for federal voter registration using several options, including: • A qualifying Real ID that indicates citizenship (e.g., enhanced versions are already available in some states) • Valid U.S. passport • Military ID + service record showing U.S. birth • Government-issued photo ID showing U.S. birthplace • Standard photo ID (like driver's license) paired with a certified birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, Naturalization Certificate, adoption decree, or similar documents proving U.S. citizenship. Every eligible U.S. citizen has plenty of time before the next election to gather one of these common documents and most people already have or can easily obtain a birth certificate or passport. It's a straightforward way to ensure only citizens vote while keeping access open for all Americans. 🇺🇸

Unless you’re driving 500+ miles per day, you don’t need an EV with that much range. The average person drives around 37 miles per day. Current Tesla offerings provide way more than enough for the vast majority of people. On road trips, I can usually only drive about two hours before I need to get out, stretch my legs, etc. During that time, my car charges. It’s not the inconvenience people think it is. It doesn’t make sense to lug around a huge battery when most people don’t actually use that capacity.

Thank you for clarifying your perspective on the SAVE America Act. I find it helps to understand different views on this. Just to confirm, the bill text (in Section 2(a)) does include a Real ID that explicitly indicates U.S. citizenship (which are issued in a growing number of states) as one acceptable form of documentary proof for voter registration, alongside options like a passport or birth certificate. That said, I agree that standard Real IDs often don't specify citizenship status, which might be a source of confusion and misunderstanding regarding what is actually in the bill.

@BrandBrooder @SenDuckworth The SAVE Act requires documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote (or when updating registration). A REAL ID is primarily an identity and residency document, but It is not considered proof of citizenship (for some 💩reason). Other documents are required. The end

Section 2(a) of the SAVE Act (e.g., H.R. 22 or similar versions), clearly defines 'documentary proof of United States citizenship' for voter registration as including: - A Real ID-compliant ID that indicates the applicant is a U.S. citizen (subsection (1)) - A valid U.S. passport (subsection (2)) - Military ID + service record showing U.S. birth (subsection (3)) - And other government-issued photo IDs showing U.S. birthplace, or standard IDs paired with a birth certificate/naturalization cert/etc. A passport and qualifying Real ID are just two of several approved options. It's also important to note the bill lists multiple paths to verify citizenship.

@BrandBrooder @SenDuckworth Which statement of the bill are you eluding to, the use of a marriage certificate, passport or a court order? All of them are a significant departure from a Real ID. State your boundary condition you’re hiding behind. Plus Oregon votes by mail and will continue to in the future.
