The airport is planned to be built to international standards, designed to accommodate the growing number of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims travelling to the holy city. Importantly, the project will involve private sector partnerships, ensuring long-term sustainability and efficiency in development and operations. Authorities have also confirmed that the airport will be developed in a way that complements existing infrastructure, including King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah - not competing with it.
