“Cis” and “trans” are Latin prefixes from ancient Rome, meaning “same side as” and “opposite side from”. Even high school chemistry uses "cis" and "trans" ffs. cis-dichloroethene and trans-dichloroethene etc. We shouldn't have to explain this.
