@shailjapatel International law gives all ships the right to transit through the Strait of Hormuz. If countries could block or charge for passage at chokepoints, global trade would fall apart. Thatโ€™s why the law requires coastal states to allow ships to pass without interference. Nice try, tho

@belladonnafeli Women cant be maesters, sure. That doesnt mean the faith of the seven isnt the most progressive. There are aspects to the 7 that praise and honor women specifically, or are based around protecting women

@darrellprograms @FrenlyOfficer The retreated from Hakata bay because they deployed a force (roughly 3000 men) against a relatively equal Japanese force. Add on the face that it was a beach invasion, the Japanese naturally had a force multiplier. The remaining 20K+ troops never got the chance to land on Kyushu.

@CatstackCvltvre @FrenlyOfficer Ah, I was wrong about the time on the first invasion, but they did retreat to their ships after landing and fighting a battle, because they were exhausted and felt unsafe, despite knowing it was urgent to make progress before Japanese reinforcements arrived.

This misunderstands the purpose of castles. You can leave them and attack and then come back for safety. Requires a much larger force to keep the men in a castle from doing damage.

@FrenlyOfficer @Carcrashwhite Castles don't really mean much if you control basically ever other part of the land including all the parts that produce food. Starve em out just by existing.

@jamalcaboclo @FrenlyOfficer Dothraki would struggle in thick forests, swamps, and mountains, but those place are also not the areas that create food. By controlling the more reasonable terrain of the reach, crownlands, and the flatter portions of the westerlands and stormlands, they basically control the -

@jamalcaboclo @FrenlyOfficer Everything in the book suggests they use hit and run horse archery tactics. Once on the ground they operated like melee berserkers. A knight would be effective on the ground, but it wouldn't be as easy as you think. Historically, knights could easily get outnumbered by peasants -

@jamalcaboclo @FrenlyOfficer As I mentioned in other replies, the dothraki would have a field day in the reach, the crownlands, and most of the stormlands. Like Aegon, they could easily pressgang the infantry of the places they conquered to continue the warpath.

@CatstackCvltvre @FrenlyOfficer Just the amount of plate armour and chainmail in the southern lands would be able to stop the Dothraki. They would never even reach places like the Vale, Riverlands or the North, which have environments they aren't used to and terrible terrain for cavalry.

@CatstackCvltvre @FrenlyOfficer Leather armor does work against arrows though, and Westeros also has archers. But the Dothraki don't have armor.

@darrellprograms @FrenlyOfficer - the invasion force suffered at sea due to a heavy storm, and thus retreated. They weren't futzing around trying to get established on shore, they literally did not get the opportunity to land their forces before the storm hit.

@darrellprograms @FrenlyOfficer I have no idea where you are getting this idea from. The invasion force left in early november and landed on Tsushima 2 days later. 9 days they landed on Iki island. 6 days later a small mongol force landed at Hakata bay, where a battle lasting 1 day occured, right after this -

@CatstackCvltvre @FrenlyOfficer How? How are they going to deal with armor? With fortifications? Logistics? Mounted heavy cavalry? Westeros has actual field armies of tens of thousands, something Essos doesn't. Just 'hit and run' tactics don't cut it.

@darrellprograms @FrenlyOfficer Where are you getting this idea that they spent weeks out at sea waiting to make landfall. They took Tsushima and Iki, and shortly after made landfall onto Kyushu at Fukuoka. The second invasion literally resulted in 100K+ deaths due to the typhoon.

@CatstackCvltvre @FrenlyOfficer In the first invasion, they spent weeks hanging around Japan's shores in ships. In the second invasion, it was months. That wasn't the plan. They couldn't get established on shore. The sea was going to get them sooner or later.
