Just parked in one of the two hour spaces next to red central in #redhill and the @SurreyCouncil parking warden walked past me and took a note of my arrival time. Yet completely ignored these cars parked on the pavement! @BramhallNatalie, What's the point in employing them?!

@grm_uk @meet_mark22 @SurreyCouncil @reigatebanstead @ReigateBeat I have picked this up with the Cabinet Member this morning, as there are no DYL’s in this location it is unenforceable. As this is in Cllr Essex’s Division he would need to request DYL’s in the forthcoming parking review. I have forwarded into Highways in the meantime.

@JulianEllacott The diesel emissions scandal broke in 2014 The government lost legal cases on air pollution in 2015, 2016 & 2018. The government said it was the responsibility of local government. You think too hasty? How many kids’ health are you prepared to sacrifice?

@CycleRandR I think most people interpret ULEZ in this context as “the specific proposals due to come into effect later this year”, not a generic (esp better designed) ultra low emission zone. But accept that interpretations of the semantics may vary…

Sunny afternoon in South Ruislip - chatted to someone who had already changed their car at great expense because of ULEZ, but still hoping it would be stopped, on behalf of her neighbours. #stopulez

@barbedquill Most EVs have a thermal management system, which helps protect the battery in cold weather. Often people just leave E-bikes in cold garages over winter & the battery gets damaged. If you have removable battery, it’s worth storing inside during cold spells.

If this is the case, can any battery enthusiasts explain why it seems to be the other way round for e-bikes with lots of horror stories about having to replace batteries after no time Is it just a size thing ?
Tom Callow@au_tom_otive

I love how people like Matt consider themselves intellectuals and then completely undermine themselves by spouting utter rubbish like “batteries last about 60,000 miles.” The batteries will invariably outlast the cars. Why do I know this? Because I’m an expert. And Matt isn’t.

@CycleRandR Thanks. I think it’s best to address the policy rather than who else is against it - I expected better of you ;) In short, principles of road pricing and disincentivising polluting cars fine. But this is a blunt tool, in the context of suburban areas, and too hastily implemented.

@awjre It’s status quo bias. As E-scooters are change, people look at the negatives, whereas they are already ‘priced in’ to existing modes. Interestingly the replacing walking argument is used against making local buses free - which again is a change from status quo.

I do not understand the "eScooters are bad because they replace journeys that would have been walked" argument because nobody ever applies that argument to buses. In the UK they are both public transport choices. Just eScooters are a much better point to point on-demand service.

Hmmm @CycleRandR @CyclingSurrey there seems to be some actual enforcement of yellow lines going on. Not taken in the more troublesome areas so it might just be the easy ones they're going after but its a start. If only the govt had done something on pavement parking...

Surrey county councillors spending your taxes. You all like filthy air don’t you? It is odd that nobody can reply to these tweets. Almost as though they don’t want a stream of photos of asthma inhalers to follow them everywhere 🦖🚗💨

At the High Court today for Surrey County Council’s challenge of The Mayor of London and TfL’s decision to expand the ULEZ to Greater London. Surrey says NO!

Instead of blaming @MayorofLondon, shouldn't government ensure ULEZ works for those living outside London too, including the scrappage scheme. Instead government has given @SurreyCouncil zero grants for better buses & cut local council budgets to walk and cycle by £200million.

SCC Highways told developers they needed to use DMRB rather than Manual for Streets 2 for a commercial application on a stretch of non-trunk road with residential (Aldi application in Salfords).
