Renovations are stressful. But many insiders indicate post-renovation expectations induces more stress. "The demands of golf have changed, especially post-renovation," says a superintendent at prominent club. "It’s kind of unspoken that maintenance levels need to increase."

My replacement Dave Thoenen has been working with me for the past month learning our golf course. We are getting some much needed drainage repairs done today. It's nice having extra Superintendent helping out. My last day is December 19th. It's been a good 42 year ride.

So I’m ashamed to say I’ve lived in Cleveland for a quarter century and had never visited Walden Club nearby Aurora, Ohio. My friend @morrismojo1 said that @nuzzogolfdesign was starting a renovation to fix problems and give the course new life and I should come down and check it out. I had no idea how much I’d learn from Mike and his longtime friend, Robert Rosencrans, the managing partner of the remarkable Walden property. They’re working collaboratively in a pretty unique way to craft a new look and feel for the course, redo greens profiles and upgrade bunkers pretty dramatically. They have a “who’s who”team of shapers rocking through the project with an ambitious goal of seeding Sept 15 and reopening next spring. Nuzzo is a @BunkerSolution believer so they are all in on using the system on the newly crafted bunkers that break the old design patter of two hazards at the front of nearly every green complex. The result of all of this is going to be a refreshed design that will also be easier to maintain by veteran super Ron Skok and his team. Now that I’ve seen this amazing project, I’ll be heading back soon to chart their progress and learn more about how they’re making Bunker Solution an integral part of their update.
