Spudgusta is getting an upgrade! Construction on new pro shop and maintenance building made huge strides over the mild winter we’ve had. The long time green maintenance shed remains next to the new shop and shows what a difference this new building will make.

I’ve seen some windstorms in my time around the Tetons, but don’t remember such a sustained 3-4 day period of high winds like we’ve seen the last half of this week. It’s been relentless every day since Wednesday l and somehow saved the worst of it for today.

Getting some first pictures of Spudgusta’s green poking through the from our GM. Granular snowmold application looking like it held up well. Should be ahead of the curve this season compared to last year where we had some pretty dinged up greens.

I prefer natural grass in nearly all settings, and not the biggest fan of the sports field artificial turf industry. Maybe even actively detest them. But I also think the "durability" of a par 3 course will correspond with its sustainable success (unless it is meant to be a low round, uber private type property). The inherent maintenance advantage of par 3 courses is the smaller acreage of turf, but also necessitates large natural grass tees and greens to handle wear and tear. Perhaps, synthetic tees and greens will allow for a more compact, maintenance-friendly (not maintenance- free) course, while still maintaining a durable surface that plays fairly consistently in spite of heavy traffic. This is also ALL hypothesis as it hasn't been tested on a widespread, long term scale. I applaud the outside-the-box thinking to make a project happen that might not be possible at the location otherwise.

@BPHTurf I hear you ("you" = guy who understands how turf works) but I'm curious if the infamous "retail golfer" will appreciate it. Hopefully you're correct and the trees will produce a different ambience.

Really interesting to hear Matchbox will feature synthetic tees and greens for agronomic purposes. On one hand, Jackson-Kahn’s Shortland is operational (haven’t heard reviews). But that synthetic course isn’t attached to an acclaimed turf course. Will visitors buy in?

It’s imperative that we as Superintendents get behind the @SSCF_Foundation & help raise awareness for the need for more students in our profession. A majority of the young professionals need financial support and awareness of this great profession. This foundation is doing that.

@LTGCsuper I've seen some companies working on it, but I believe we're a ways off from robot snowblowers being viable.

While I haven’t got to use it a ton this season, I’ve been very impressed with the Kress electric snowblower when we have got snow. It’s been snowing over an inch an hour since 5am and able to do a cleanup of our walkway and around cars without even denting the battery.
