@Pauloforliberty @NBCNews And massive taxes on corporations, which were a larger income source than tariffs. Corporations were the ones who lobbied for the income tax to reduce their burden. This of course followed the reconstruction that changed corporate laws and led to robber barrons.

@NBCNews We don’t have to live like this with all these taxes. In 1913 and before America relied mostly on tariffs alone.

2% of the US population holds a doctoral degree. Less than 5% of all doctoral degrees are earned by Black women. Congrats to my colleagues @_brisingletary, @ke_malitsitso, and @OnyiiOnwuka. You each have accomplished an amazing feat.

@Tiffany7001 @clysy I do a lot of meta-learning in my undergrad classes. I directly teach them collaboration is a skill, and there are many ways it manifests. I talk about it frequently, have them write reflective papers about it, and engage with their group projects by asking about collaboration.

@EvalGeek "Explain your work" is not a very good question. "Work" is many layers of things, and if you can explain one layer and another is too complicated to explain simply, then it's not that you don't understand, it's more that the questioner didn't understand the problem w the question

@pdaotran @shan0133 One of many reasons DEI ends up being a white supremacist construct and needs to be deeply interrogated

@DVIntervention @shan0133 The ally industrial complex = privileged ppl of all forms but mainly ⚪ ppl preaching/parroting inclusion for 'dei brownie points' to 1) build social/prof clout & 2) hide behind for past or inevitable future racial transgressions. ⚪ ppl, who are you really doing this for?

@shan0133 I had the honor of hearing George Takei speak about his work to educate people about Japanese internment. The fact that it is so readily dismissed is a huge problem in understanding the issues of race and racism within a historical framework in the USA.

@AyeshaBoyce My gods. Trying to work with students to understand evaluation and evaluative thinking is a completely different thing is a challenge in itself! So much indoctrination in academia that tells students to think in very specific ways.

@AyeshaBoyce This is definitely a time where I'm sad that Twitter lacks a laughing emoji! This is hilarious on so many levels :D

@shan0133 Kyriarchy was intentionally constructed to reflect those points, which is another reason it's a fascinating concept

@shan0133 True, me either, but I want to see equitable distribution. When the top five earners are listed on the i990s and include executive salaries well beyond front line workers and staff, I am wary. I also love investigating shell nonprofits as well. Tax forms can be so revealing.

@shan0133 This is why it's so helpful to use Guidestar to investigate nonprofit tax forms. You can quickly assess how much money ends up going to administration, and for me that tells me something important about how they operate.

@whatchidid Why is the default response not a ton of WD-40 or a 50 gallon barrel of lube? I'm pretty sure either will work for multiple problems, in a general life sense.

Twitter, I need your help. I stacked a ceramic bowl into another one while doing dishes and now they are stuck. How do you remove the smaller bowl without breaking both of them? Why am I so invested? I’ve tried to fix this for 2 days, and I cannot give up now.

@shan0133 Excellent - that framing will be great for addressing why this pattern exists. Referring to it as "predominant" mainly serves to focus on a majority like it is what it is, rather than interrogating the systems that keep it that way!
