Incredible rubbish in Jetstar’s press release for today’s flight 🤣 Maybe comms guys need to chat with ops about range. There’s no world in which a B787-8 flies 16 hours with 325 pax. 16 hour sector would be limited to half the load! Even worse, already seen a publication repeat this verbatim!

First flight of refurbished Jetstar B787-8 (VH-VKK) on her way to Phuket! Hopefully the WiFi is working. Maybe someone on board can give us a ping?! 🤣

@analyticflying I’m sure with schedule disruption in the ME there must be (temporary) spare slots to allow the 10am arrival time. You’d think LHR management would take a pragmatic approach. They would be working with the ME3 on service capacity at the moment, and offer up slots to others.

🚨Some action on Qantas's Perth-London flights: 🔴When adding SIN stop this month QF9's departure from PER was retimed from 7:15pm to 3:50pm, maintaining 5:05am arrival at LHR (changed to QF209) 🔴QF10 remained non-stop with unchanged schedule 🔴Generates downstream problems: 1) messes with connectivity at PER; 2) limits options to rotate aircraft through to eastcoast 🔴Starting NS season (29 Mar), PER departure retimed to 7:35pm with LHR arrival now 10:05am (changed to QF219) 🔴QF10 remains non-stop with unchanged schedule; reclaiming ground time at LHR, allowing improvement of PER connectivity & allowing better options to rotate aircraft to/from eastcoast 🔴Changing LHR times is complex & likely done a temp slot swap or received a temp dispensation from slot coordinator Also, we're expecting some major Europe network adjustment & will share some of the rumours/options in coming days!

@analyticflying @LachlanB_ Reported medical (of crew member 😥) according to social media post(s) by onboard pax. The onward leg PER-SYD also took a weirdly inland routing too (compared to other PER-SYD flights that day).

Just saw it now, but presumably it was medical as they got underway relatively quickly. On ground 1:40am local, departed 4:50am. Doubtful tech problem requiring divert would've been solved that quickly at that time. Also, not easy for QF to handle A380 diversion to PER at that time. Also has to use T1!

We're starting to see airlines shift to the next phase. Last week we kept using the phrase "if this persists". Well, it's persisting! It won't be mass capacity shifts, but expect to start seeing more of this: 🔴Lufthansa: all indications they're going to shift capacity from cancelled ME flights to bypass ME, adding more direct capacity to Africa & Asia 🔴BA: cancelled Abu Dhabi for the rest of the year, others for rest of the month; expect that capacity to be redeployed to Africa & Asia 🔴Qantas: "we are exploring options to redeploy capacity into Europe on existing routes in the coming months"

@analyticflying QF702/703 got the A330 intermittently too, usually coinciding with start of school holidays and at times just the Saturday flight pair at the start of the holidays.

@analyticflying @3121Lego New (actually historical old) QF93 timings late night MEL departure not great for onward US connections the biggest drawback to the new departure time, but LAX should be big enough market on its own to make timing attractive, especially as a point of difference to other carriers.

@3121Lego It's a very different schedule to the US carriers, but it's something you love or hate. There isn't a middle ground on it 🤣

Some follow-up details; it really is a significant network change: 🔴MEL-LAX: also retimed to evening departure from MEL (11:15pm) to improve utilisation; unlike A380, B787 time is "too precious" & 15h on ground at LAX isn't good → retiming reduces turnaround to 4h 🔴MEL-DFW: not cancelled, but reworking operational days (hence just zeroed out); they're hoping to reclaim enough time from MEL-LAX with other network adjustments to keep 3-4x/week, but not daily like NW25/26 🔴SYD-SIN: A380 will operate 6x/week on QF81/82 with Thurs remaining on Finnair A330; no idea where Finnair A330s go (only scheduled 6x/week SYD-HNL, not scheduled on SYD-MNL or SYD-BKK) 🔴Speaking of MNL: BNE-MNL to switch to A321XLR but increase to daily! BNE-MNL was always the poster child for the XLR, but always thought they'd wait until the lie flat config.
Analytic Flying@analyticflying

Very significant network adjustments for Qantas from NW27: 🔴MEL-LAX: going all B789 → A380 was 2 of 7 per week 🔴SYD-LAS: new very short season route (B789 3x/week) 🔴MEL-DFW: expecting this to be cancelled to make the B789 time available → it's zeroed out 🔴Readout from results: US premium demand remains strong, but not offsetting ↓ economy class demand leading to shifting A380→B789 So where do they send the A380s? 🔴SYD-SIN: ↑ A380 on QF81/82 → was 2 of 7, but could go to daily 🔴Where to the Finnair A330s get redeployed?

@analyticflying Where will they position crew for return leg? Crewed MEL-DRW-SIN with crew pre-deployed to SIN (?deadhead ex-PER), or swap out at DRW and have another do DRW-SIN-DRW?

Well, it's going via Darwin. That makes a whole lot more sense than leaving 40 to 50 passengers behind!

Yes, you’re reading that correctly! Jetstar subbing A321LR on Melbourne to Singapore. Nearly an hour longer than longest A321 route. Presumably loaded at extra ACT fuel tank overnight, but even then it would need a big payload restriction & perfect destination weather.

@crosscourt1 It’s incredible that he can win 56 of 60 and yet the YE#1 only decided this tournament. Sinner’s record equally incredible given the 3 months off he had (albeit outside grand slams). And gap to #3 bigger than gap between #3 and #1000…. Some great stats at the moment. Incredible.

@analyticflying @SteveNomadic @Nomadic_OMD Will it have the legs for GPS-PPT? I guess lightly loaded the ~4200mi should be ok (pending winds), versus a “fully loaded” range more like 1000mi less that that….

@analyticflying True - guess they figure they can add an A350 sunrise frame direct and/or what would it do for 787 utilisation as a tag? Was EZE not served via SCL at one stage (so not without precedent)?

@DocJamesPollard One World doesn't have much impact on it as QF have an extensive bilateral codeshare partnership with LATAM (aka LAN).

So a random Brazilian avgeek on a well-known forum reckons he's got the scoop on new Qantas routes to Brazil! This was 4 days ago and not a peep in Australian circles since. Also, the technical elements don't pass the sniff test. What do you think?

@TennisChannel Kooyong (but wrong season so won’t happen) Rhode Island (but players have to cross Atlantic post French….) More realistically: Halle or Majorca, finishing a week to ten days out from Wimbledon, with Queens to stay as 500 in between the 1000 and Wimbledon.
