Valdez was exercising free speech in a public space. The officer, in brown plaid, claimed he tried to “defuse” the situation. Video evidence tells a different story. No badge, no clear ID, just yelling and shoving. The officer grabbed Valdez, manhandling him as he tried to walk away. He lied to an on-duty cop saying Valdez wouldn’t leave. The video shows no such order was given. Redding PD’s report skips the officer’s profanity, screamed near kids. He claimed Valdez’s swearing broke free speech laws. Wrong, those rules were scrapped in the 1970s. (Cohen v California) Valdez, a Purple Heart recipient, never fought back. The officer’s actions spark outrage over free speech rights. I want to state that I am aware that Goodsprings doesn't really make money from this event due to the cost of putting it on as a whole. Old Man Liver is trying to break even with the event, and it only makes sense that as something like this grows, it would also have a higher budget. I want to state that Bethesda has nothing to do with the prices at the Fallout: New Vegas Fan Celebration, and the event organizers are doing their best to make the event a fun, safe, and, above all, smoothly operated celebration of the Fallout series. I have always loved Goodsprings and the Fallout Fan Event, and that hasn't changed. It feels like my home away from home, and it's amazing that the town opens its doors to fans of the Fallout series each year like this. Support this event.
