Two indie devs made a game where you run your own video store in the early 90s. It’s currently the #5 top-selling game on Steam. - Rent out VHS tapes & manage customers - Charge Late & Broken Fees - Upgrade & customise your store It’s called Retro Rewind - Video Store Simulator

@G27Status @NVIDIAGeForce The risk if we embrace it: at some point, the production process will turn into making blocky assets with basic animation and prompt “make it look cool and ship it”. We’ll lose our taste and ability to make art entirely over generations. Every game will look identical.

Don’t buy this. They did a full demonstration and reveal the way it was because they thought it looked great. If it looked bad, they would’ve just waited to have the devs show off how good it could look. GenAI isn’t here to produce art. It’s tricking you into thinking it is.
TheLolHounds@thelolhounds1

@maximilian_ I had your same reaction but this is NVIDIA's response. I think we are seeing initial showcases that have not been optimized or fine tuned by the developers at all yet. Grace Ashcroft won't look like that with DLSS 5 once Capcom actually tune it to their artstyle for example.

@NVIDIAGeForce LOL. We've reached the point of diminishing returns in game visuals where companies have convinced themselves that some freaky AI filter that slaps an artistic direction in the face is progress worth sharing.

I think they did a great job at GDC. The question I'm mostly left with is the economics of it all. Reminds me of how we felt with Game Pass where we have that "this is good for us, but how does it work for you" moment. Are they planning to make money off the console sale itself? I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around the open season storefront approach. It's great from a player POV that I'll have everything, but wondering how a business like Microsoft/Xbox "wins" when you can completely opt out of their storefront where a ton of generated revenue comes from the cut that they take on third party sales. It also makes me wonder if they're approaching this like Valve with their Steam Machine where they're not actively seeking a high volume of sales. With that in mind, why "commit to console" as Asha said? Anyway, there's my brain salad. Looking forward to the results of your investigation, sir!

Okay, getting back into the office this week. I'd like to hear from you. What are your biggest take aways from Xbox @ GDC? What are your biggest questions? What do you want to know most about Xbox Helix? Give me your opinions, and I'll get to work investigating. ✍️

Finally getting back to my DS I just repurchased this. I remember my parents buying this for me before a long flight to Scotland in 2005. I'm so excited to revisit it I'd kill for new pixel art Star Wars games like this. @TributeGames, this is right in y'alls wheelhouse!

In 2018 I decided to finally go to my very first E3! I watched it growing up and was psyched, only issue being I had hardcore social anxiety & no friends, so I had to go to an 80k person event solo... I posted about it online and got a DM from someone named Camelworks

Today, we share the heartbreaking news that Mackenzie Rowles, known to many of you as “Camelworks”, has passed away. Together with his family and friends, we recently held a celebration of his life and gave him a final send-off, with his ashes being scattered across the Australian countryside. I cannot describe the heartache I felt when I was told the news. Mack was my good friend, one of the first people I ever met in the games industry and Bethesda/YouTube community, over 10 years ago. He was the kindest, most welcoming person you could ever have the privilege of knowing. He cared very deeply about those around him - always happy to have a conversation and help you with any problem you were facing, without question. And man, he was just the funniest guy. No matter how you were feeling, he could make you laugh and brighten your day. Camel’s family has asked for all of you to share your fondest memories of him and remember him for the incredible life he lived. He built an amazing community of over 800 thousand people across his YouTube channels, and we would love to hear how he touched your lives. Please also respect their privacy at this difficult time. Finally, I would like to show you this video of Mackenzie, which was made for his family and played at his celebration of life service. Many tears were shed when editing this video, and I hope it does his memory justice. Camel, I cannot help but cry when writing this, but rest in peace my brother. I will spend my days looking for you in Sovngarde and we will share a drink once again. - Jonny “LoneVaultWanderer” Roses

Ever since I learned of the passing of Mackenzie last month, I've really struggled to find the words. I've spent some of that time rewatching all of our old vlogs he made of us together and laughing my head off at the stupid stuff we did. I hope my stories do his impact justice. I remember going to E3 2016 and meeting him in the hotel lobby before we got all the Bethesda focused creators together for dinner. The bond was instantaneous. We spent literally every second of that trip together and did that again for E3 2018. This dude made me laugh like no one else and we had an unforgettable time together making content. It was the first moment the whole idea of a "Bethesda Community" actually started to feel like a real thing to me. I remember tearing up during each flight home because I was sad that it would be a long time until I saw my friend again. It's the blessing and the 'curse' of what we do online. You meet people like Mackenzie who are equally obsessed with this weird part of gaming and learn you have more in common with them beyond that. I distinctly remember us talking about the main L with E3 going away was that we'd be able to hang less. Fortunately, we still linked up at PAX East and stayed in touch online as best as we could. Mackenzie was as brilliant as he was hilarious. I'm so beyond grateful that the memories we have aren't just that, but were captured in such a beautiful way that I'll always to be able to look back on and remember an incredible time in my life. I miss you, brother. Thank you for everything and we'll meet again in Sovngarde. ❤️ @Camelworks
