Digital transformation has become a defining pillar for competitive Tourism destinations, making it imperative for Zimbabwe to embrace Innovation that enhances efficiency, strengthens regulation and elevates Tourists experiences in line with Vision 2030. In a bold stride toward a fully digitalized Tourism ecosystem, the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry through the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has signed a landmark partnership with NetOne, advancing the digital thrust of National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) through ICT integration, data-driven systems and devolved operations. Guided by His Excellency President Mnangagwa’s whole-of-government approach, this collaboration positions Tourism as a tech-driven engine for job creation, enhanced global destination branding and the realization of an upper-middle-income economy. Under this initiative, NetOne donated 50 computers, 35 printers, Wi-Fi hotspots at Tourist resorts and offices and co-branding and visibility at selected strategic spots across the country, while POTRAZ contributed 20 laptops, collectively strengthening operational capacity across the Tourism sector. The partnership reinforces ZTA’s role as a national enabler by introducing digitalized inspection systems, real-time regulatory oversight and improved nationwide efficiency, while unlocking opportunities to harness the National AI Strategy for predictive analytics and innovation. The signing ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary for Ministry of ICT Dr B Chirume, Chief Director in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Ms T. The ZRP has noted with concern false information circulating on social media on tourists’ vehicles movement and the use of roof top tents or roof racks. The ZRP makes it categorically clear that no tourists’ vehicles are being impounded in Zimbabwe for using rooftop tents or roof racks. The false information is dismissed with contempt it deserves. For the record, any tourist who need clarity should feel free to contact any nearest Police Station or National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp on 0712 800197. The ZRP has also engaged Zimbabwe Tourism Authority over these false messages.

The appointments come at a time when Zimbabwe’s Tourism sector is experiencing sustained growth, increased global recognition and rising investor confidence, positioning Tourism as a key driver of National Development. The newly appointed Boards bring extensive experience and expertise that will provide strategic guidance and effective oversight to advance the Ministry’s Tourism mandate. The Mosi-Oa-Tunya Development Company Board will focus on accelerating Tourism Infrastructure development and facilitating Investment in Victoria Falls, while the @ZtaUpdates Board will strengthen destination promotion, enhance service delivery and uphold regulatory frameworks that add value to Tourists and support industry growth.
