The Culture and Heritage Tourism Cluster came alive at Barbourfields Stadium as the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, His Excellency Cde. Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa officially launched the 2026 National Culture Month commemorations under the theme “Creativity and Diversity: Advancing Vision 2030 through Cultural Expressions.” The commemorations highlighted the growing importance of Culture and Heritage Tourism in advancing socio-economic development, promoting Destination Zimbabwe and empowering Communities through Creative Industries and Cultural Preservation. In his keynote address, the President applauded Zimbabweans, including those in the Diaspora, for establishing Community-Based Tourism products that advance the country’s Heritage and traditional Cuisines, noting that Culture is good for business and remains a key pillar for Tourism growth, Investment and Cultural exports. The President also commended Gastronomy Tourism, an initiative being championed by the Patron of Tourism, Her Excellency Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, applauding Zimbabwean Chefs and culinary experts who transform the rich produce from the country’s land into authentic Indigenous Gastronomy that feeds, nourishes and showcases the Nation’s rich Cultural Heritage to the world. He further underscored that through Cultural Tourism and the Creative Industries, Zimbabwe will continue projecting itself to the world as a confident, modernising and industrialising Nation anchored on its rich Heritage and diverse Cultural expressions. As Culture Month celebrations continue to gather momentum, all roads now lead to the highly anticipated Mbira Festival tomorrow, the 23rd of May 2026, at Baradzanwa Cultural Village, where the timeless sounds of the Mbira will connect generations and celebrate the heartbeat of Zimbabwean Culture. Organised through the Whole of Government Approach by the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture through the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry through the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, the festival is expected to deliver electrifying performances by renowned mbira artistes while showcasing the growing importance of Cultural Tourism in preserving Heritage and attracting Tourists. The celebrations will culminate with the National Finals of the Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competitions scheduled for the 25th of May 2026 in Mbizo, Kwekwe, where Zimbabwe’s rich Gastronomy Heritage, traditional Cuisines and Culinary Creativity will take centre stage as key components of Gastronomy Tourism. A colourful celebration of Zimbabwe’s rich Culinary Heritage and fellowship came alive today at Africa Multination for Christ College in Glenview, Harare as the inaugural Zimbabwe Assemblies of God Africa (ZAOGA) Forward in Faith Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competitions showcased the growing role of Churches in promoting Religious Tourism and Gastronomy Tourism. The event attracted 48 contestants from the Community, Youth, Couples and People with Disabilities categories, reflecting Zimbabwe’s commitment towards Vision 2030, the Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063. Traditional dishes and indigenous delicacies including sadza swiss rolls, mhodzi dzemanhanga, hohwa hunedovi, harurwa, mutsine, madora, matamba and tsubvu were proudly showcased, celebrating Zimbabwean identity, healthy eating and the country’s Heritage-Based Economy while promoting pride in local culture and traditions. Officiating at the event, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon. Barbara Rwodzi described Tourism as a key pillar towards Zimbabwe’s economic transformation and upper middle-income society status, highlighting the country’s rich Heritage and warm hospitality as major Tourism assets. She applauded the Tourism Patron, Her Excellency The First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa, for championing Inclusive programmes such as the Traditional Cookout Competitions and AgroTourism4She initiative which are empowering Communities, preserving Indigenous knowledge systems and creating Sustainable livelihoods in line with the Government’s devolution agenda of leaving no one and no place behind. Minister Rwodzi urged ZAOGA to establish canteens where contestants can prepare and sell traditional dishes to congregants, transforming culinary skills into income-generating ventures that contribute to the Gross Domestic Product. A rich tapestry of Faith, Flavour and Heritage unfolded at Murehwa High School in Mashonaland East Province today as the United Methodist Church hosted its maiden Amai’s Traditional Cookout Competition, a colourful celebration marked by fellowship, song and cultural pride. The event, a fusion of Religious Tourism and Gastronomy Tourism, drew 48 contestants from the Community, Youths and People with Disabilities categories and showcased the growing role of Churches in advancing the preservation and promotion of Zimbabwe’s indigenous cuisine and traditions. Officiating at the event, the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Hon Barbara Rwodzi said the initiative aligns with His Excellency The President Cde.Dr. E.D. Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030, devolution strategy and the philosophy of leaving no one and no place behind. Minister Rwodzi also applauded the Tourism Patron The First Lady Her Excellency Dr. Auxillia Mnangagwa for championing inclusive programmes that celebrate Zimbabwean dishes, strengthen family health and values, uphold the Zimbabwean identity, whilst empowering Women, Youths, and People with Disabilities. She noted that such cultural initiatives are key pillars in advancing Zimbabwe’s Soft Diplomacy by showcasing the Nation’s traditions, hospitality and Culinary Heritage to International Tourists. The Minister urged Zimbabweans to take pride in local delicacies such as mapfura wine, mazondo and madora, which are increasingly attracting International interest. The Church also expressed gratitude to the First Lady for initiating the transformative programme, describing it as a powerful platform for preserving Cultural Heritage, fostering unity and positioning Zimbabwe’s Indigenous Cuisine as an important tool for Cultural Exchange and National branding. “Zimbabwe is my home, we are all one people,” those were the heartfelt words of the President of the Confederation of African Football Dr Patrice Motsepe, as Zimbabwe’s renowned hospitality and growing stature in Sports Tourism shone brightly this morning at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport in Harare.
