It has been an eventful three days at the Africa Climate Summit 2, where Governments, Multilaterals, Civil society groups, and the private sector converged from around the world. I had the privilege to interact with various stakeholders and participate in crucial events focused on enhancing climate financing in Nigeria and fortifying our climate ecosystem. Preceding COP30 in Belem, Brazil, this Summit united prominent African climate players to discuss the Baku to Belem roadmap, aiming to secure $1.3 trillion in climate finance to bridge the substantial funding shortfalls crucial for developing nations to achieve their climate goals. Key highlights from the Summit: - Strengthening regional partnerships and establishing robust frameworks to drive carbon market potentials. - Advocating for Ministries of Finance to integrate climate financing into fiscal strategies. - Empowering Country Platforms for effective results in funding loss and damage. - Mobilizing local resources for Climate and Nature preservation amidst fiscal challenges. - Overhauling Trade & Investment Policies to bolster Africa's economic and climate resilience. - Encouraging private sector involvement in Adaptation Finance: Clearing uncertainties and spurring action. Special thanks to the International Climate Councils Network for their unwavering support, to the Director General of the National Council on Climate Change, Tenioye Majekodunmi, for her collaborative spirit and dedication to engaging with diverse stakeholders despite a demanding schedule. Notable delegates from Nigeria included Special Adviser to the President on NEC & Climate Change, Rukaiya el-Rufai, the Deputy Chair, Federal House Committee on Environment, Terseer Ugbor, Onoja Joseph Daniel, PhD, DG of the NCF Nigeria, and Honourable Commissioner of Environment, Climate Change and Mineral Development from Plateau State, Peter Gwom, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Titilayo Oshodi MCIPM, FISMN, all ensuring that Nigerian voices were heard on the global stage. #ACS2 #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #ClimateFinance #StakeholderEngagement

I had the privilege along, with my Technical partner, Mr. Ahmad Lawal, the CEO of the Milestones Centre for Sustainable Development, Food Security and Climate Action, to meet with the Executive Governor of Niger State, His Excellency, Umaru Mohammed Bago to discuss the State's readiness to access International Climate Finance opportunities to help the administration meet its development goals, whilst building resilience to the increasing effects of climate change. Niger State ranks amongst the most vulnerable States in Nigeria to the effects of climate change and given the recent devastating floods, it is imperative that the State steps up its preparedness to access climate finance at scale. This engagement was critical as a starting point towards developing sub-national capacity that will strengthen the country's ability to mobilise climate finance at scale. #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #ClimateFinance #StakeholderEngagement #SubnationalReadiness
