@simonsarris one thing I’m truly grateful to my school for is that we had lots of various tools to learn: drill press, lathes, milling machines, multiple hand tools. There even was a table saw (obviously nobody allowed us dumb kids near it but still). It was kinda cool.

Broader question: Is using a drill manual labor? I didn't think so. I thought it was just a consequence of existing in a 3d world. Maybe high school kids don't. They exist in someone else's world. They're not, I guess, going to change their envbironment. x.com/markvalorian/s…

This just sounds so impossible but I've heard 2 anecdotes from teachers that suggest the same thing. Kids who never ever picked up a drill or a screwdriver before graduating high school.

First thing we skills test for is "can you run a cordless drill". 98% of guys under 35 in fact cannot. They can't run a cordless drill properly, safely. You aren't going to learn to be a plumber or electrician in 2 years because you don't even know enough to change a tire.

The official KiCAD PCB account actually responded. Thank you for the clarification about when you had a 3d viewer. I accept that I could be wrong about who had what first. Furthermore, I am not talking down about KiCAD for them looking at what the other tools, they should do that. Competitors that learn from each other is how we end up with better products as users. The reason I say "everybody wants to be like altium" is because I have heard this directly from other PCB software developers. They see altium's strengths and have tried leverage those strengths for themselves in their own way. This is a good thing.

Lots of people new to KiCad think that we copy interfaces from <pick your favourite tool>. But look back through the history and you'll see that this existed in KiCad first. How do we know? Well, 3d-viewer was added in 2004. Before Altium Designer existed as a product.

I think I won an eBay lottery and got this rugged treasure chest. Agilent E4416A EPM-P Power Meter with cable, 8481B sensor, and 30dB Attenuator. All for only 1200 USD. Additionally, I got an 8481D sensor with a 11708A 30 dB Attenuator Pad for less than 500 USD.
