NiftyGateway had it right imho. Everyone just got greedy all around. They have Gemini distribution, early pieces by the OGs, at one point white-glove service, fist/CC checkout, and could’ve partnered up with one of the trad houses to bridge the gap. What went wrong? Folks didn’t want them getting that 15% or so and now here we are.

I sympathize with @foundation for having to pivot during a very difficult bear market. Further, I no longer think it's possible to survive long-term as a standalone art platform in web3 - artists can mint anywhere now and handle the distribution themselves. Mostly poorly tbh. Which brings me to what I think is next... IMO the next phase is distribution. Creators need it (badly!) and new collectors want it. It's why trad galleries can command a 50%+ rake. There's a business in there somewhere that's waiting to be solved and I have yet to see anyone get close. What does it look like? I think it starts with the creators by giving them the tooling and a bespoke platform to use as a virtual storefront, while providing a back end that very few creators want to deal with. A post on Twitter (X is a stupid name btw) is no longer good enough to distribute. In fact, it's a shit way to distribute because unless someone follows you a new collector will never see it. Is there enough volume to turn this into a company? Right now, probably not; which is why I'm hoping one of the few remaining platforms out there tackle this head on. We need them because there aren't many left and, as stated, the current model is unsustainable I think. There's a lot more to tackle but I need to clean up all the shit I burned with my ACK lighter yesterday 😂 Best of luck to @saturnial and the whole @foundation team. I don't love it, but I get it. 🫡
