An effective system of interventions is built upon the assumption that even the most at-risk students are capable of learning at high levels, and that the educators can collectively achieve this outcome for every student. #atplc

Students struggling in math class don’t need traditional remediation. They need rich mathematical experiences related to their lives in order to make sense of what they are learning. “More of the same but slower/simpler” merely keeps those students behind.

Today's PSA: "Learning Loss" is a made-up construct and only serves to deflate students, educators, and caregivers. It invalidates their hard work and resiliency, ignores all the learning that happened, and adds unnecessary stress. #remotelearning #education

Please help me with learning “loss.” What’s lost if it wasn’t there in the first place? And if the loss is rote skills that Alexa and a calculator efficiently answer, who cares? And if it is essential conceptual understanding, who says it was developed well in the first place?
