@Sneffleupagus first observed & experienced this phenomenon as classrm T Was asked to teach PreCalc said yes iff all were labeled Honors PreCal. Many Ss labeled Gifted/Honor struggled when they saw “the other kids” show same/more success Had to dig into teacher toolbox for new strategies.

When we make math this insurmountable mythical thing, folks who "get it" can tie being good at math to being better than other people. Therefore some lash out in anger at the idea that anyone can be good at math because it threatens their identity and self-worth. #NCTMCHI24
