Lower property taxes in CA (per $) are more than offset by affordability. It costs 2-4X to live in California (especially in Los Angeles). Affordability is a NIGHTMARE in CA for lower wage earners. The perfect storm. CA is a tax and affordability nightmare.

Is Gavin Newsom’s claim that Texas and Florida are “the REAL high-tax states” true? NO. It’s false. Let’s break this down. Here’s approximately where each state ranks at $50,000, $100,000, $500,000 and $1,000,000 of annual income with notes below. $50,000 •California - 4th highest •Texas: ~ 34th •Florida: ~43rd $100,000 •California - 4th •Texas: ~ 34th •Florida: ~43rd $500,000 •California - 1st •Texas: ~ 40th •Florida: ~43rd $1,000,000 •California - 1st •Texas: ~ 43rd •Florida: ~45th California has the highest state income tax rate in the U.S. (up to 13.3% but even at $50,000 it’s effectively around 2-3%), while Texas and Florida have no state income tax (0%). CA has the highest gasoline tax. TX and FL significantly lower. Just compare per gallon cost all in. CA also has among the highest sales taxes (base 7.25%, with many cities near or above 10%), while Texas has 6.25% base (up to 8.25% combined) and Florida has 6% base (7–7.5% combined). CA has high vehicle registration fees tied to vehicle value (~0.65%) while Texas registration is mostly flat ($50–$80 per year) and Florida typically ranges $45–$85 depending on vehicle weight. CA has the highest capital gains taxed as ordinary income up to 13.3%, while TX and FL are 0%. CA has a relatively high corporate tax rate of 8.84% compared with TX franchise tax (0.375–0.75% of revenue depending on business type) and Florida’s corporate income tax of 5.5%. @skunkypants California taxes every income level higher except under $25,000. And when you compare $25,000 in taxable salary CA, FL, TX, the difference is roughly $500.

Failed. Deputy Mayor of Emergency Services Williams - Indicted for bomb threat to city hall on Rosh Hashanah. Convicted. Director of Office of Emergency Management - Asleep. “Quit” 2 weeks later. Fire Chief Crowley - Fired by Mayor Bass in public falling out for failing to adequately prepare and deploy resources before the fire. Suing the City of Los Angeles and claims her firing by Karen Bass was wrongful, retaliatory, and politically motivated. Scapegoat. Governor Newsom - Has provided “no responsive answers” to any Pacific Palisades search of his communications for 2025. Claimed immunity for the state. Failed. Takes no accountability. Blames the wind, climate change despite an understaffed / underfunded emergency response team. Fire started on state ground on 1/1. State protected plants > people. City / State rolled the dice and didn’t comprehensively fight or even observe a fire that burned for 6-7 days. Los Angeles Fire Department - Fire engines, strike teams, and aerial resources were insufficiently pre-positioned despite clear red-flag warnings. Up to 40% of fire apparatus was unavailable due to maintenance and upkeep issues. Conspired with Mayor Bass to alter After Action Report according to LA Times reporting. Los Angeles Department of Water and Power - Santa Ynez reservoir empty for over 12 months due to a $200,000 cover fix. Water system feeding Pacific Palisades had inadequate storage and pressure redundancy for a worst-case wildfire scenario. Hydrants ran low quickly. Almost all hydrants remain closed as you drive through the Palisades burn area. Never accessed! Los Angeles Emergency Management Department – The city’s disaster coordination structure functioned ineffectively as evacuations began and fire conditions escalated rapidly. Limited coordination. If this had happened 12 hours earlier perhaps thousands would have died in Palisades alone. National Weather Service – Issued severe red-flag warnings ahead of the fire; Those warnings didn’t translate into aggressive enough pre-incident action by local agencies. Being angry can be constructive. The lack of transparency in Los Angeles and our state of California set the true fire under my spirit over the last 14 months. Mostly, I couldn’t fathom the lack of leadership literally under fire. Rather than addressing the open issues, our leaders gaslit, misdirected, lied and, as it turns out, conspired to avoid all liability to the city, state and their own political careers. After their immunity push FAILED in the court system, and now that it’s clear that we’ll get complete discovery, I feel a sense of hope and relief. I want young and old people especially - those at the beginning of their lives and those at the end of their earning era - to have support, honest support, at a complete comeback. Thank you all for being there for me, rooting me on, and not overtly judging me - as I fought against Mayor Bass, Governor Newsom and now a complicit LADWP and LAFD leadership (according to the LA Times reporting and on site, first hand communication from LAFD). Our community in Palisades and greater community in Altadena, Malibu and the burn area were left to burn. They let us burn. And now we will learn the entire truth. $275,000 for the highest graded Dragon Ball Vol 1, Naruto Vol 1 and One Piece Vol 1 manga. I’m a 10X in 10 year collector who follows my passion into categories I deeply understand. Manga and Japanese influence in animation / anime is unlike anything the world has seen since golden era comic book IP introduction. And, let’s be perfectly clear, it has surpassed anything the world has ever seen. This next generation of collectors (those under 30) will drive valuations to levels we’ve never seen before. Why? The content is extraordinary. The brands become lifestyle brands. The vision is decades long for IP creators. Grading started just 2 years ago. I’ve invested over $1.25 million in the last 6 months. My belief… this will be my greatest return of all time. And I love the hunt, the IP and the community.
