Suicide found the PGA Tour this week but it wasn’t its first time finding Shane Lowry. He’s lost three Clara schoolmates to it. Lowry stopped and reflected on “the lowest place in the world” and plenty more, in typically raw fashion. For @ExaminerSport

Since December the Canadian consensus has been anyone but Italy. As the playoffs kick off, it’s time to think again: Gattuso’s Azzurri are exactly who Jesse Marsch’s side should want in their World Cup opener. For @TorontoStar/@StarSports

100 days, 80 days, doesn't matter to Jesse Marsch and Canada. There are only long days now and they're making the most of them. Piece from the national team's first training session on home soil of this World Cup year. For @TorontoStar/@StarSports

Sharp opinions, social media punditry and, inevitably, a lot of Saipan chat. Brilliant to have @kdkilbane77 join our MA in Journalism crew @journalismatUL yday to offer so much insight and advice. Fitting way to kick off a huge World Cup week.

Help a mother be with her son for his final moments.
Sligo Rovers supporter Aaron Mulligan was recently involved in a very serious road traffic accident in Australia and has suffered a severe brain injury that is not compatible with life. He is currently in critical condition in Royal Perth Hospital, where doctors are doing everything they can to keep him alive until his mum can reach him.
Mairead and her family urgently need to travel from Ireland to Australia, flying through Doha, to be by Aaron’s side.
This emergency journey brings enormous and unexpected costs — last-minute flights, accommodation in Australia, and other expenses while they remain there supporting Aaron.
Any donation you could offer would mean a lot to the Mulligan family.

Jesse and Kim Marsch lived their dream life in perpetual motion across the globe. Until cancer slowed time like only cancer can. Kim's battle changed both of them — deeply. A window into that fight and a lifetime of teamwork. For @TorontoStar/@StarSports

@JoeCallaghan84 @TorontoStar @StarSports A really beautiful and enlightening piece, Joe, and a reminder of what really matters. Thanks for sharing.

The rollercoaster that is Alphonso Davies' fitness: makes his return from a hamstring injury at HT for Bayern, sets up a goal, then pulls up lame again and is subbed off in tears 26mins later. Surely will be questions about him returning less than 3wks after a muscle fibre tear.

A few months ago Mander went deep on Dronegate, the culture around Canadian WNT and an investigation she had many issues with. It's worth a read. She said then "I hope that I’ll get to write more chapters". Looks like Carla Ward is giving her that chance.

Well, this is interesting. Jasmine Mander is back in football as part of the Ireland WNT set-up. On the pitch today as Carla Ward's performance analyst. When Dronegate first exploded in Paris, Canada Soccer said it was 'possible' Ireland had also been spied on before 2023 WWC.

After Alphonso Davies' injury earlier today, Jesse Marsch's Saturday doesn't get any better as a distraught Promise David is stretchered off in Belgium tonight after a hideous landing. Four months out from the WC, Canada's captain and its most in-form striker injured on same day.

He may turn out to be the striker TFC has needed but, man, paying £20m+ for a guy who's scored just 13 top-flight goals his entire career (none in 4yrs), hasn't scored an international goal in 7yrs and has missed big chunks of 3 of the last 5 seasons with injuries? Not sure.

As Canada Soccer CEO Kevin Blue joined his CSME counterpart to unveil a new dawn for the game here, a square on the Zoom call was a reminder of all it took to get here: Nick Bontis. 'We’re leaving that past in the past' Blue said. Hope so. For @TorontoStar

Canada Soccer’s Bontis era was defined by the damage wrought by the previous incarnation of the CSB deal. The now CONCACAF VP heard more than a few references to its deep flaws on yday’s call. Finally, it feels like football in Canada is moving on.
