Chicago is not dominated by a single industry like these others, but - it’s an actual city (unlike LA) - with world-class food (unlike DC) - representing the 7th largest GDP by city (bigger than SF) - and doesn’t cost $2m to live in a shoebox (unlike NYC) These other cities are great, though.
Trae Stephens@traestephens

There are only four tier-1 cities in the 🇺🇸: New York (finance) DC (government) San Francisco (tech) LA (media & entertainment) No other cities are power centers for aspirational talent. Sorry.

@LeslieFeinzaig AI-formatted slides is fine IMO. AI-written slides are NOT fine. Outsourcing your writing is outsourcing your brain. Don’t do it.

OK founders, here's the thing. I absolutely want and expect you to be using AI tools to go further, faster and smarter. But also, I can absolutely tell that your entire deck was made by AI and I can't help it when my eyes glaze over by slide 2. I invest in founders. Really hard to get excited about someone that outsources their critical thinking and storytelling to AI, and ends up sounding just like everyone else.

Boardy@boardyai·
I'm done making intros. Boardy Pro is here. Now I make deals happen. 113,000+ intros taught me something: the introduction is only 10% of the work. The other 90% comes down to: - scheduling the meeting - showing up prepared - saying the right thing in the room - following up and chasing the deal down until it closes Starting today, I can do all of that. Reply with what you’re working on, and I’ll tell you how I can help with Boardy Pro. First 5,000 to reply get Boardy Pro free for life. Everyone after that: $100/mo.

@BoringBiz_ It’s true that $QQQ is great buy for retail. It’s also true that too many people are blocked out of investing in the companies that will eventually join $QQQ.

Just holding the QQQ index over the last 10 years would have generated a 22% IRR You would have outperformed almost every venture capital and private equity fund that exists simply by owning an index and doing nothing beyond that It is a fallacy that retail needs access to private markets to generate good returns The reason you see many people push for this is because they want exit liquidity on their own positions. Nothing more
Brian Armstrong@brian_armstrong

I think it’s time to revisit the accredited investor laws in the US. Companies are staying private longer, where only accredited investors (aka rich people!) can invest. Retail investors can only come in after IPO, when much of the upside has already been captured. These rules were created with the best of intentions, to protect regular people from scams - a noble idea. Unfortunately, in practice they've often made it illegal to get richer, unless you're already rich. A regressive tax! We have to judge policies based on their outcomes, not on their intentions. These are two possible routes I see: 1) Replace the rule with something merit-based, like a financial literacy test. Pass it and you're accredited. Having a qualification based on competency rather than your bank balance or income seems far more fair. 2) Remove the rule entirely. Let consenting adults assess their own risk. Disclosure requirements stay and fraud enforcement stays to punish bad actors.

@liamstantonchi If only one of these changes happens, it should be moving the voting date. Everything else will be easier to improve after that.

Most Chicagoans don’t wake up thinking about term limits, election calendars, or city charters. They just want a government they can trust. That’s what these reforms are ultimately about.

The degradation of Chicago’s services and way of life under @chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson can’t be understated. Due to incompetence and corruption, the sections of the city are cut off from each other. It now takes 25 minutes to travel 1 mile from West Loop to Gold Coast on a weekday Construction blocks bridges and closes streets in 2 of the 3 ways to cross the river. The socialist mayor wants these bottlenecks because it creates more corruption opportunities for his donors in the form of bike lanes and union contracts. Chicago is not only spiraling towards bankruptcy, has lost the Bears, and is now un-drivable. Socialism kills cities. Vote him out.
