Mayor Johnson and Commissioner Boatright joined Commonwealth Development Partners yesterday to start work on the conversion of 500 N. Michigan Ave., a $162 million office-to-residential project that will create 320 new homes in the heart of downtown.

Community safety must inform how we spend our tax dollars. We have a duty to the families who have lost loved ones to gun violence to encourage greater accountability and responsible practices in the firearms industry, prevent illegal gun trafficking, and protect Chicagoans.

I do recognize that my position and my commitment to justice and equity created some frustration from individuals who want more or from individuals who think that I'm doing too much. And there's a healthy balance, of course, that I have to provide in all of this. But I think it's too soon to to prognosticate what the future will hold."

"I just want to just be emphatically clear: as much as I've done my part to fulfill the promise of public education, the state of Illinois has to do its part as well. This is not a sustainable way, and constantly bailing out the state of Illinois for its lack of urgency around fully funding our public education system places our workers, our families, and our students in this constant state of anxiety, and the best way in which we can ease those concerns again is for the state of Illinois to do its part and fully fund our public education system."

"The full funding of our public education system should have been fulfilled by this year, according to their own law. And until we receive the full funding from the state of Illinois, our district will remain in this type of perpetual peril, and this is just not sustainable."
