@jlippincott I've been paying into social security and medicare for about 40 years and from the first day I paid it I assumed I'd never see a dime of it back. I'm happy to give it all up if it means my kids don't have to pay into that damn Ponzi scheme.

Young people should be able to opt out of Medicare and Social Security taxes. The IRS should send you a bill instead of making you figure out what you owe. Tax withholding shouldn't exist. Make citizens watch the money literally leave their accounts.

@asvldr @BFrankzetta @Sargon_of_Akkad Reading comprehension please. I didn't say it wasn't a problem in America, I said Europe is now the home of it. We're fighting it here and trying to weed it out of our own culture, which is why we can't support Globalist EU projects any longer.

@JohnMHawk @BFrankzetta @Sargon_of_Akkad You are wrong. Globalism as ideology along with woke and trans ideology is imported from the USA. You are one election away from going in the same tracks as before trump took office. USAID enables a lot of wokery around the world too, including Europe

@pierrebgood @gif_tannen Well, Pierre, the batter did stay still and the catcher irresponsibly hit him in the back of the head with the throw. I'd have been inclined to eject the catcher if I was the ump. Frankly, a few decades ago, the catcher would've been beaned the next time he was at bat.

@BFrankzetta @Sargon_of_Akkad European governments (not necessarily Europeans, or at least not all of them) are America's ideological enemy now. Globalism is centered in Europe, and it is what communism morphed into after the fall of the USSR.

The "leave no man behind" doctrine is actually a strategic weakness disguised as a virtue. Name one other military on earth that destroys 6 aircraft and fights a ground battle inside a sovereign nation to recover one pilot. You can't. Because no other military confuses tactical sentimentality with strategic logic. Soldiers serve the mission. The mission doesn't serve the soldier. The US has now established that Iran can shoot down an F-15, then watch America spend $300M and expose Delta Force trying to prove it didn't happen. That's not military doctrine. That's politics with weapons. A military that cannot accept the risk of loss cannot win wars. The US hasn't won one since 1945.
Daniel Foubert 🇵🇱🇫🇷@d_foubert

Lose all this to rescue 1 pilot and call it your greatest military success of all time.

@Arrogance_0024 I suppose it's no surprise you can't imagine being brave enough to risk your life for a colleague. Such a small life. Is it the metric units that shrivel your soul?

@CorbinSmithNFL The Chairman of the FCC recently reminded the NFL that their antitrust exemption doesn't cover streaming, only broadcast rights. Interestingly, MLB is not covered by the same Congressional law, it's covered by an ancient Supreme Court case, which gives them more leeway.

Is there a sport that alienates its fans more than baseball when it comes to actually watching games? Doesn’t seem like there’s even a close second.

@illnevercallitx @Marty_prr So then you must by now realize that if someone commits a crime while dressed up as Mother Earth, when she gets arrested, the police are not arresting Mother Earth, just some criminal dressed up like Mother Earth. Does that change your opinion on this issue?

That's it. That's the best picture from Saturday's No Kings protests in the USA. The literal Statue of Liberty being detained by police. It doesn't get much more poetic than this.

This one seems to be going places so I'll just say a few things about myself. I'm a German citizen with an American fiancee that's eventually gonna move to Germany. I'm increasingly concerned about the direction the USA is moving into. I'm an atlanticist and I really hope that Europe and the US are gonna be able to normalize their relations again in a post Trump world. We people in Europe know that the next 2.5 years are gonna be difficult but we know that better times are coming.

@Sargon_of_Akkad Britain would have a good case for sending them a bill to cover the cost of Royal Navy anti-slavery patrols. If it had a British government anyway.

@BradRTorgersen All just side effects of Woke. The wokesters don't care about anything but The Message so they screw up all the rest. Most especially they screw up "compelling stories" because the only thing they find compelling is The Message, and everyone else is tired of it.

FACTS: "The real reason they lost the fan base wasn't a gay Klingon in a skirt; it was lazy writing. One Trek Hill had the same baggage as Disco. The premise of The Burn was weak and poorly explained. Starfleet protocol was nonexistent, and at times the show felt like Lower Decks meets Police Academy 7—if that's the story you want to tell, bill it that way, and they will come. As long as the showrunners want blockbuster effects more than they want compelling stories, any new version of Trek is going to fail."
Rowdy Rick Robinson@RowdyRick73

I've watched all of "Nu-Trek," as it's called today. I'll be blunt, being too "woke" isn't the problem for the Kurtzman era -- that's always been there. There has been hate for every iteration of Trek for a variety of reasons, including Earth being a socialist utopia. TNG was a carbon copy of TOS in season 1, and season 2 wasn't much better -- DS9 was really dark, and I didn't enjoy it as much in its first run as I do today The real reason they lost the fan base wasn't a gay Klingon in a skirt; it was lazy writing. One Trek Hill had the same baggage as Disco. The premise of The Burn was weak and poorly explained. Starfleet protocol was nonexistent, and at times the show felt like Lower Decks meets Police Academy 7—if that's the story you want to tell, bill it that way, and they will come. As long as the showrunners want blockbuster effects more than they want compelling stories, any new version of Trek is going to fail. I think we have reached Trek Fatigue again, and it may be time to shelve it until people who understand the universe are put back in charge.

I said 2 years ago the NBA will be irrelevant in America within 15 years. People laughed. But this is how it starts. First ratings decline, then fan interest declines, then local media revenue declines. You don’t lose cultural dominance overnight, you slowly become less relevant until it finally shows up in the business side all at once.
Shams Charania@ShamsCharania

The NBA has informed teams that the league is projecting a $165 million salary cap for 2026-27 -- $1M lower than previous outlooks due to a reduction in local media revenue, sources tell ESPN. Minimum salary $149M, tax level $201M, first apron $209M, second apron $222M also $1M lower each.
