@redskin_potato @ArbbiMane @GoatRoper911 @JJWatt I understood that. But, even then, it has come to be expected regardless of service. It's rare that service is really great anymore. Most often, they're doing the minimum requirements of the job and expecting 20%+

Genuine question on a restaurant situation: You walk up to a counter to order. You find your own table and seat yourself. If you order coffee, they hand you a cup and you go fill it up yourself. If you order food, they hand you a buzzer and when it goes off, you go pick it up yourself. The iPad has a “20%, 25%, 30%, Other” tip option, with 20% already preselected. What’s your move?

@Bshepp87 @GoatRoper911 @JJWatt Lawmakers need to do better when it comes to minimum wages. We did away with a separate minimum wage for tipped positions. If restaurants want to incentivize great service, they should pay their staff accordingly. Raising prices a little would at least be consistent

@GoatRoper911 @JJWatt Restaurant owners can only decide to not pay a real wage to positions that are commonly tipped. Servers and bartenders. A coffee maker make a reasonable wage

@redskin_potato @ArbbiMane @GoatRoper911 @JJWatt But does it? Post-Covid, it has become expected everywhere. Machines are typically set up like the one in this scenario and very difficult to bypass. Tipping culture has made it just a fee the consumer is paying regardless of service. (I tip very well when the service earns it)

@ArbbiMane @GoatRoper911 @JJWatt At least tipping incentivizes good service. You can sit in a French café for 30 minutes, ready for the check, while your server chats with their friend and avoids eye contact.

@JJWatt Tipping culture needs to go away and restaurant owners need to pay a living wage. If you get good service then leave a healthy tip but not because the owner is not paying fairly. Your scenario just proves this problem needs to be fixed.

We’re seeing high phone call volumes due to Public Health’s routine school Immunization of School Pupils Act work. Some callers may hear “the customer you are calling is not available.” The City is making efforts to address. Thank you for your patience.

@CTVNews Gift cards should be considered cash. They were paid for so no way should the be allowed to be dishonoured. The comp at should simply have to go bankrupt if they canny be accepted. Cease operations.

@KaptainKaTx @Archaeologuy @townbrad People with 4WD end up in ditches here, too. Many seem to think it somehow magically transforms the rubber on their tires and helps with traction on ice.

@Archaeologuy @townbrad I know here in Austin, it wasn’t snow. What looked like snow was actually just 3” of solid ice. I actually went out just fine in it yesterday, but even in 4WD drive I was having traction issues. Just pure ice. Like trying to drive on an ice rink.

@Archaeologuy @townbrad As a fellow Canadian, I giggle at first, too. Then, I remember that these are communities with little to no available resources, no winter tires, and no experience driving in it. Comparable to throwing a typical Canadian on an ice rink with bald tires.

@ivandemigoal It is funny on the surface. However, these are places with no plows, no salt trucks (or any available salt), no winter tires, etc. They also have no experience driving in any icy conditions which makes it even more dangerous.

@CHCHNews And for those who don't get a credit, just suck it up because the groceries are more expansive for them as well and where does the money come from to give them this credit? That's right, from the people who don't get a credit, so they actually get hit twice
