This stunning slow-motion footage of the green dragontail butterfly was filmed by Kazuo Unno in northern Thailand. Lamproptera meges are a species of swallowtail butterfly that can be found throughout Asia [full video: buff.ly/2ThZAVZ]

Unsure right now if the outlook for 2021 is bleak or optimistic but thankfully my contingencies for both involve copious amounts of Yorkshire Tea so at least I'm somewhat prepared

Neil Rosser, the best field worker I've met, has a new paper on the Amazon river as a suture zone for butterflies due to a partial barrier effect. Collaborative effort with Brazilian colleagues. doi.org/10.1111/ecog.0… Part funded by NatGeo - movie too vimeo.com/377406300

People who work with butterflies: observe this wonder-material for hanging pupae! Amazon basics microfibre cloth. Was able to hang 30 tricky pupae in about 5 minutes.

Giving a presentation to my lab about applying to and getting a post-doc (as I’ve just gone through it) – what are some good interview questions you like to ask or have been asked?

@freyagarry Great advice for sure! That's got to be the first priority. I also like it when people ask questions not directly related to the project, helps get a better idea of who they are. You're not just hiring for the job, you're hiring someone you're going to be working with everyday!

@LMQueste My postdoc interview was (in my possibly flawed memory) mostly focussed on the science in the proposal. My advice then and now would be to make sure you know the science on the subject as well as you can. This preparation took me a over a week of holiday reading and studying.
