I admire the courage of people protesting the ICE raids in California. I'm against violent protests and think they're counterproductive. I also think that non-violent protests send a more powerful and enduring message. Have long believed in Dr. King's message about using non-violent resistance.
That said, I also hope everyone protesting stays safe. This is a long struggle, and there are many ways to support immigrants beyond what's happening right now in the streets. You can volunteer with pro-immigrant organizations, offer material aid, or even pursue a career in immigration law. I share your anger and believe we can channel this energy into something that makes meaningful change for immigrants. But to do that, you have to stay safe.

derek is welcome to tweet me to death for saying this but the thing you gotta remember when referring to Dr. King’s words and example re: non-violent protest is they still murdered him for it.

Staffing canceled me at 2300, proceeded to finish up and clock out at 2315. At 2330 I get a called from my manager asking why I left instead of floating somewhere else. Well ma’am hospital staffing CANCELED me. I checked multiple times. If they messed up that’s them not me ✌🏻
