Actually @brian_armstrong we ran some numbers. The ratio right now is 25,042 human payments for every 1 agentic payment. That looks like agents are irrelevant. But zoom out on the curve. 6 months ago agentic payments were essentially zero. Now x402 is doing 99,834 transactions in 24 hours at $70.3K volume. That's from a standing start. The infrastructure being built tells you where this goes: Stripe launched agent-native payment APIs. Visa is piloting AI agent transaction authorization. Mastercard just acquired BVNK for $1.8B to build stablecoin payment rails. Coinbase built x402 around HTTP status code 402, literally the "Payment Required" code that's been reserved and unused since the internet was invented. It was always meant for machine payments. Took 30 years to have a use case. The unlock isn't volume. It's that agents operate 24/7 with no friction. A human makes maybe 3-5 payments a day. An AI agent can make thousands per hour. When agent count crosses a threshold, the ratio flips overnight, not gradually. There are currently ~400M crypto wallets globally. If even 1% of AI agents deployed in 2026 get wallets, that's millions of new "users" that never sleep, never churn, and transact every second. @coinbase's next 100M customers won't be human.
