During the Kenya Climate consultations in Kajiado County, Salome Owuonda, ED @africacsid, emphasized a recurring challenge in youth engagement within the climate–peace–security space: representation without influence. She noted that while young people are increasingly being invited into policy conversations, their voices are not always meaningfully considered. “You can speak, you can shout but if your opinion is not taken into consideration, it becomes a problem.” According to Owuonda, one of the core gaps is that many young people are still not consistently seated in decision-making spaces at community, county, and national levels. And even when they are, the impact of their contributions is often limited. What is missing, she stressed, is not youth capacity — but structured, meaningful engagement.

This morning, we joined industry experts, researchers and government officials for the regional consultations for Uganda on the development of the EAC Artificial Intelligence Strategy, convened by @easteco1. The consultations are under the theme: “Towards an Ethical, Inclusive, and Sustainable AI for Regional Development.”
