The Museum celebrates the legacy of Joe Ranft. Born on this day, Joe Ranft was a @CalArts graduate, visionary animator, and known as “the heart and soul of Pixar”. In collaboration with the Ranft Family Trust, the Museum recently presented artwork from the Joe Ranft Collection.

The National Animation Museum congratulates our collaboration partner @TCMIndy and our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering on the successful opening of their new exhibit, Tiana’s Joyful Celebration! Open now and runs through Jan 3, 2027 at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.

Big ideas start small. Creative Director Robin Stapley and his team at the Museum revealed a handcrafted model of the Origins Gallery, a space dedicated to the early foundations of animation. This timelapse captures the craftsmanship and vision behind the design process.

The Museum celebrates Zootopia! Released 10 years ago today, Zootopia became an animated hit. Engineers at @DisneyAnimation made a fur-creation software that gave artists control over brushing, shaping, and shading so characters could have distinct, highly detailed fur styles.

The Museum celebrates Chris Buck! Born on this day, Chris is a director known for directing animated films such as Wish, Frozen, Frozen II, Tarzan, and Surf’s Up. He holds an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award, and an Annie Award. Chris is an Advisor for the National Animation Museum.

The National Animation Museum celebrates Retta Scott! Born 110 years ago today on February 23, 1916, Retta Scott was a pioneering animator and artist who worked on animated films like Bambi. She was the first woman to receive screen credit as an animator at @DisneyAnimation.

The Museum celebrates One Hundred and One Dalmatians! Produced by Walt Disney and released 65 years ago on January 25, 1961, the film features 101 Dalmatian dogs with 6,469,952 spots across 113,760 frames of animation. Disney artists used around 800 gallons of special paint.
