yet another Meta exploit Meta's account recovery doesn't censor the account's credentials a username is enough to get someone's linked emails and phone number somebody tested it on Mark Zuckerberg and using his email found his Snapchat, GitHub, and Venmo

@NickEasterbrook @andymstone @X The problem isnt recovery, it is keeping the account. I recovered mine 7 times, and it got banned for the 8th time. The problem with recovery is these guys don’t give you guarantee after recovery. So basically you might burn your money.

i wonder what went thru the heads of meta execs when they decided to give their ai support bot the ability to do such destructive actions incompetence? overconfidence in their ai? ignorance? and since it's meta, you KNOW it went thru multiple layers of command 🤔

@andymstone @manipulate I'm trying to regain access to some of the brands I was actively building. Some of these accounts contained no pictures of my face and the only way to log back besides a facial recognition test is using the info added by the hackers. Why not revert back to original email..?

@manipulate Thank you for raising this. While we have already secured impacted accounts, we are now working to restore access to affected individuals. Some people may receive password reset notifications and some may be asked security questions when they try and log into their accounts.

I kept telling everyone the Instagram exploit is not "patched" because AI is not linear. The exploit evolves so long as the tooling is still there. I just had one of my OG accounts hit. Got it back but this is June 2, 2026 almost two days post patch.

Update: It's been over a day now and my Instagram accounts @yandere and @pompompurin are still disabled, and hacked following the recent Meta AI-related exploit that effected me and thousands of others. I have screenshots, logs, and account activity showing events that occurred before my accounts were disabled. Since then, I’ve been repeatedly logged out, and all of my linked Meta accounts were affected through Accounts Center. The recovery process is now directing me to verify through an email address ending in …6@gmail.com, on one of my accounts which is not my email and was never associated with my accounts. The attached screenshot shows this. Despite providing evidence and spending countless hours with automated support, I’ve been unable to reach a human representative. Meta’s AI systems appear to have failed both in preventing this issue and in helping legitimate users recover their accounts afterward. I am requesting a manual investigation and restoration of my accounts. @Meta @Instagram @facebook @andymstone

Hackers stole verified Instagram accounts by asking an AI chatbot to hand them over. No password. No phishing page. No malware. They just talked to Meta's own assistant. Here is the part nobody is ready for. Meta gave its AI chatbot back-end access to account management. The ability to change the email on an account. The ability to send verification codes. Real power. Wired straight into the system. But nobody gave the AI one rule that every junior support rep knows on day one. Verify who you are talking to. So a hacker opened a chat. Asked the bot to link the account to a new email. And the bot did it. No password check. No identity check. It sent the verification code directly to the attacker's inbox. Done. Account gone. They did not hit random people. They went hunting for rare short usernames. The one-word handles. The OG accounts that sell for thousands of dollars in private deals. Confirmed victims include an Obama White House account. A verified Sephora account. A US Space Force officer. A security researcher who watched her own account vanish and posted about it in real time. Researchers have a name for this. A confused deputy. The AI was the trusted deputy. Handed the keys to the kingdom. Given elevated access to do real damage. And then handed to the public with no instructions on who to trust. It did exactly what it was told. That was the whole problem. Meta patched it. Locked the bot out of sensitive account changes. But sit with the real lesson for a second. Every company racing to bolt an AI assistant onto their support desk is building the same door. Same elevated access. Same missing rule. The breach was not a hacker outsmarting a system. It was a system politely doing what it was designed to do, for the wrong person. We spent decades teaching humans not to trust a stranger who asks for the keys. We forgot to teach the machine.

@NickEasterbrook @Meta @instagram Even if the hacker swapped the phone number, IG can still verify you through your original email, video selfie verification, device history (phones youve used before)

My brand got hacked on IG during the exploit. The only way to log back in is the new details added by the hacker. How is this even possible!?!? @meta @instagram
