If NHIF was bad, then SHA is worse. Not because Kenyans don’t want healthcare, but because the Ruto govt designed policy for a country that doesn’t exist. You can’t force 29 million people into a system when over 80% are struggling to survive daily. A mjengo worker in the informal sector earning 500 bob daily isn’t “able to contribute” that money is already spent before sunset. Rent savings. Food. School fees savings for his 2 or 3 kinds. Debt clearance etcetra That’s the reality. Leaders must stop assuming income equals capacity. You cannot collect what does not exist. Lower the premiums and the base will expand. Build trust first. Release SHA payment data . Let everything be open and public . Deal with fraud . Otherwise, SHA will collapse faster than NHIF ever did.
