In other words, it helps ensure that no religion is used to justify harm against another. Fundamental freedoms including religion and expression are protected under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. When political messaging begins to resemble rally-style symbolism, it raises serious questions about intent. Jamil Jivani isn’t standing up for Canadians. He’s standing up for himself. Canada’s strength is its pluralism. Our institutions should reflect that through respect, not division.
