@JoeTurco @mikehilgers The areas around Lincoln were CPBOne drop off sites under Biden. While I wouldn't attribute the rise to that specifically, it is impossible to tell if there is a correlation because LPD does not, and refuses to, collect and document immigration status of those detained for crimes
English

@mikehilgers Hmmm. How many illegal migrants have entered into Nebraska during the same time period?
English

Why is Lincoln's violent crime rate up so much year-over-year? The national trend has been downward.

@midwestern_ope That's not limited to Midwesterners. It's absolutely a thing all over the country.
English

@JamieBonkiewicz This immature desire to abuse and misinterpret the 25th Amendment because the election didn't go your way is why I am so thankful our predecessors intelligently wrote adequate checks and balances into our government.
English

@RealJamesWoods If the courts will not uphold the law, citizens will have to take the law into their own hands. And when that happens, the "law" is up to the individual interpretations of the ones choosing to enforce it. Scary times indeed. An unfortunate return to the "wild west".
English

Sadly, activist judges are the fertilizer sowing the seeds of vigilantism in America. It’s s only a matter of time.
J.T. Alexander@JTAlexander_
The Bar Association won't like me stating the obvious, but this is the inevitable conclusion if the Courts don't make a massive corrective turn in the very near future. We're about to see lynchings and local tribal protection racket gangs come back out of sheer necessity.
English

@cornfedcole @Mericamemed I've never seen a comment that so correctly highlighted the ignorance and issues with GenZ as this one has.
English

@Mericamemed Boomers are either running the government or leeching off it.
Gen X is irrelevant.
Millennials are too busy chasing matcha, man-buns, and night life to realize they let the 60 year old politicians become 80 year old politicians.
Gen Z is going to fix what you all broke.

@atrupar "No Kings" & "Trump can do anything whenever he wants" in the same week. I'm a moderate but I find it hard to take the Democrats seriously these days. Their message is false & twisted spin. Democrats shut off their pay and Trump is the one that doesn't care about them?
English

@OnlyStans85 Star Trek had a proven formula. Yes it was liberal, but it also had room for the conservative. The main drive was intelligence. Mind-expanding thought-provoking stories focused on the positive human potential in the future. Modern Trek intentionally moved away from all that.
English

More & more I am convinced these people do not watch Star Trek. They remember it from childhood. This era doesn't feel the same (because it can't) & they can't process it. They feel some hurt that doesn't exist anywhere but in their mind & they lash out on a keyboard and mic
Fandom Pulse@fandompulse
Film reviewer Jeremy Jahns on Alex Kurtzman's Star Trek: "To be fair it is difficult to find any modern sci-fi that wasn't influenced by Star Trek in some way. The one exception being modern Star Trek." Is he right?
English

@fandompulse While this show unraveled pretty badly by the end, he did accomplish this goal. Is was the most Star Trek thing on TV at the time by far. There were many intelligent and thought-provoking episodes.
English

Seth MacFarlane on why he made The Orville to capture the spirit of the original Star Trek:
“There’s a certain kind of aspirational, hopeful, optimistic sci‑fi that hasn’t really been done in 15–20 years. I mean, Star Trek did it for a long time and then they evolved into something different, and it left open that space for that thing that we all used to love so much.”

English

@SenatorWarnock It's already illegal to murder someone so we don't need gun control then?
English

@unusual_whales Does Senator Murray really not know how Social Security tax works? I am again asking if maybe we should have a general IQ test requirement before running for office...?
English

@RealDonKeith Wow. I came in expecting this to be some sensitive snowflake stuff. But this is legit. This judge is a prick. Massive props to that guy for being so diplomatic and the bigger man in the situation.
English

@fandompulse He's not wrong. Star Trek constantly contradicted itself in regards to the Prime Directive. But I also see the benefit of it's protections in some cases. Definitely a tough ethical debate.
English

Star Trek: Voyager actor Robert Beltran on how the Prime Directive is ridiculous:
"The idea of leaving any species to die in its own filth when you have the ability to help them, just because you wanna let them get through their normal evolutionary processes is bunk -- it's a bunch of fascist crap. I much prefer the Cub Scout motto."
Is he correct?

English

@astro_jaz Old rocket tech, old target, and only around the moon. A step backward innovation wise. I support space exploration, but this seems like a colossal waste of money.
English

@MattWalshBlog I'm a moderate that swings conservative more often than not. And I am excited to finally see something done about Iran. They have been a threat and destabilizing force to the region and The US my entire life. I only hope that we have a plan with concrete goals for success.
English

I’ve never seen such a disconnect between the commentary on this site and what I hear in the real world. I’ve talked to dozens of normal conservatives in real life about the Iran War and I haven’t met a single one who’s actually enthusiastically in favor of it. At best they’re warily optimistic. In most cases they’re opposed. In some cases they’re not only opposed but deeply furious. And yet here if you utter a word of criticism about the war you’ll be shouted down by throngs of alleged American conservatives who allegedly have wanted nothing more than for America to go to war with Iran. It just doesn’t reflect what I see on the ground. That’s not just cope because my position is unpopular with “my side.” I’ve held plenty of unpopular positions. I really don’t care. But in this case the social media vs real world divide is stark and unlike anything I’ve seen before.
English

@BernieSanders I was about to be really shocked by this data. Until I saw the proposed community note with the actual tax rates paid. I know I ways have to fact-chrck these kind of claims from Bernie.
English

Elon Musk, the wealthiest man alive, recently paid an effective tax rate of less than 3.3%.
That is less than the average truck driver, nurse and teacher.
YES, we must demand the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share. twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
English

@ansonmount I did more research. The bill says the data is "deidentified" at point of submission by the healthcare provider. They literally submit only the required data, the only identifiable being a birth date, via a form. No actual identifiable data gets submitted to the government.
English

@Perty_Slick I could be wrong but the way I understand it, all information is collected and “de-identified”. This could mean a lot of things. But this is also the state that did this: wpln.org/post/im-defini…
English

No, this is not an advertisement for a new dystopian science fiction series. This is real and it’s happening in my home state of Tennessee. wpln.org/post/bill-to-t…
English

@Anlashok0 @ansonmount It can be very dangerous. We've seen the abuse of gun registries as public data which led to targeted harassment, stalking, and criminal activity.
English

@ansonmount @Perty_Slick De-identified means that the PHI/PII is masked/erased. The original, unmasked version gets destroyed. Protection of patient privacy is an extremely serious matter, and failure to protect can carry extremely serious consequences.
English

@elonmusk I'm curious Mr. Musk, have you ever considered funding rallys to counter "No Kings" mentality? So we could organize some actual pro-US rallys and marches for once and show how many actually respect and appreciate the great country we live in. Just curious. Would be awesome.
English

@mmpadellan You have to be on the left to A) have time and no life to protest, and B) throw very public temper tantrums. I protested current events with my vote in 2024. Plus, the average protestor age seems to be about 65 so I am too young to be protesting with all the geriatrics.
English

@ansonmount That is a great question actually. I can see how that interpretation can be made. Now I am curious for clarification as well. We have seen the abuse of registries and public data before. If this identifiable data makes it to record in any way, that is problematic.
