Elderly husband who fled with his wife from care home because 'they just wanted to be home together' told his daughter 'Don't worry, thank you for your help, I'll make sure I look after her' Colin Geraghty age 89 and his wife Claudette age 83 fled Melba Retirement Village in Melbourne Australia on Saturday after just arriving the previous Tuesday because they really did not like being in care and just wanted to be home together. The couple who have been married for 65 years left a heartbreaking message for their daughter Linda McKelvie which read Don't worry thank you for your help Ill make sure I look after her. Both suffer from dementia and need daily medication with Colin having Alzheimers and Claudette living with vascular dementia and seizures yet they went on a roundabout adventure visiting a shopping centre to buy medication and driving off in their car. They were found 32 hours later one hundred and four miles away near Maryborough after a major search with the alarm raised when their neighbour checked on them and received no answer. Their daughter said: 'I think because they were recently in respite care it was such a change for them,' Ms McKelvie said. 'They didn't really like being in care and I think they just wanted to be home together. 'Dad thinks he can help her … they feel like all their choices are being taken away.'
