California Wildlife Crossing Project ‘Bridge to Nowhere’ Surpasses $100M California’s Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing project has exceeded $100 million and fallen way behind schedule, raising concerns about costs and completion timelines. First announced in 2022 by Governor Gavin Newsom, the project aims to construct an overpass for wildlife across ten lanes of the 101 Freeway in Southern California. Initially projected to cost $92 million with a targeted completion date of 2025, officials had expected a combination of state funding and private donations to cover expenses. Nearly four years later, the project is now estimated to cost around $114 million, significantly above early projections. Officials cite rising construction costs, inflation, and labor challenges as key factors behind the overrun. The crossing, designed to support a wide range of species from insects to large mammals, has also received additional funding from the California Transportation Commission to help cover the increased expenses as construction continues. 🎥: @EndWokeness
