Has the U.S. economy, historically, been better under Republican presidents or Democratic presidents? A Republican financial analyst decided to find out. His name? Bart Starr, Jr. (Yes, the son of THAT Bart Starr.) The answer may surprise you.🧵

As a Floridian, after 2 hurricanes hit this state in 2 weeks, I know I for one am glad that the Republican legislature and @GovRonDeSantis focused on culture wars instead of homeowners insurance the past two legislative sessions. 🧵

FUN FACT: Each of us who support Kamala are de facto surrogates for her campaign. So we have to have the talking points at the ready to answer questions or criticism about her or her campaign. So here are a few at the ready: 1) She didn’t pass any great things as VP:

Women law professors have been receiving text messages, all with similar wording, from a variety of unknown numbers. And no, it is not because syllabi were posted online w cell phones (many non-public numbers are being contacted). I have been texted 3 separate times, and I know of women law professors at more than 30 law schools also contacted. Just this week, I have started receiving emails from women law students that they are now also receiving these messages. One of the students called the person who sent the message to her. He stayed on the phone for 9 minutes. He said that he is a 2L law student and repeated much of the rhetoric from the messages. He said that he had been “doing his research” and had “accepted defeat.” The male on the phone had a slight Southern accent. The FBI is encouraging recipients of these messages to contact them to report at tips.fbi.gov (or 1-800-CALL-FBI). You are welcome to email/DM me to discuss.

And now this is my third round with receiving the creepy texts. I am just giving everybody a heads up because several colleagues also received these personalized texts this morning. It is bizarre, it accomplishes nothing, and you are not alone.

I appreciate folks taking up for Tim Walz's son, but be careful. It's not OK that he cried because "sure he's a guy but he's also neuro-atypical." It's OK that he cried bc it's OK for guys to cry, period. Normal people do it. Healthy people do it. Men who don't are the problem

@ProfessorAtkins @moodle I use Microsoft forms. I do use a new form each class, (mostly cause I ask diff questions on the form), but you really don’t have to. You can just keep adding to the same form and then sort the spreadsheet it dumps into by date.

What are folks using to electronically record attendance? @moodle’s attendance was so efficient; I’m disappointed that Canvas doesn’t have an equivalent. I tried Microsoft Forms but had to create a new form for each session, along with a separate excel sheet. Other options??

@EllieMargolis I’m going to be late submitting. Doing my first empirical piece and figuring out these graphs has been crazy. If it’s slow now, I’m scared for when I finally submit. Maybe I’ll have to wait until feb.

It’s been a surprising three weeks in American politics, to say the very least. After Pres. Biden announced his decision to step aside as the nominee on July 21st and endorsed VP Harris, she informally secured the nomination through party support in fewer than 32 hours. (thread)
