@tinycharlotte72 Even in Southend-on-sea, pretty much the southern equivalent, we referred to Blackpool Illuminations when lights left on. I trust that in a spirit of reciprocity, when you found someone/something was going on too long you’d say ‘Ee, just like Southend pier’ 😉

Growing up in the northwest of England, all parents would complain about their kids leaving lights on by saying 'It's like Blackpool illuminations in here' so how on earth did they express this down south?

Jamie & Amanda @thisisheart Did you know that in the early 1900s obviously there were no ice cream vans so vendors used to push a barrow and ring a bell calling out 'Hokey Pokey!' Which was a take on the Italian dialect 'Ho 'n poco do gelato' meaning I've got some ice cream

@e_acheson @McDermottQC I retired after 40 yrs as a solicitor at the end of March 2020, straight into the first lockdown. I was a founding partner in my firm. Never had a leaving do and I didn’t expect or want one. Not just because it was against the rules but to avoid risking everyone’s health.
