@SarahWorkx It's a valve or the Americans call it a tube because it's a vacuum tube. They used to be used in radios and electronic equipment like the equipment for code breaking during 2WW. They are still used in some musical sound equipment eg Marshall amps, Orange amps & Fender FMIC amps.
