I still have no idea whether Lucy Letby is guilty or innocent, but still think her convictions were unsafe (as per bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…). Evidence in such heinous cases has to be categorical and inarguable, surely.
Nick Harris@sportingintel

Short thread on nothing whatsoever to do with sport, but it is to do with media and law. Yesterday (13 May), the New Yorker published a 13,000-word investigation into why the conviction of British nurse Lucy Letby last August for murders of 7 babies might be unsafe 1/n

@mtpennycook How about “prompt registration of transfers and leases” as a priority? The slowness of registration is the number one issue you should be prioritising.

Lucy Letby has instructed a new barrister, Mark McDonald, to draft her application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission. McDonald has told MD his first task will be to conduct a review of the scientific and clinical evidence using the best available named experts, and publish it. If it draws very different scientific conclusions from those of Dr Dewi Evans, the lead prosecution expert, the CCRC will be under pressure to refer the case back to the appeal court. In the current issue of Private Eye, MD looks at possible tactics for appeal. Available in shops now. Read our previous special reports into the lessons of the Lucy Letby case online. #KayBurley: The crime bill states that roughs sleepers might be considered a nuisance if they smell... so if you smell you might be arrested? Gillian Keegan: The most important thing.. KB: It's not funny... should people be arrested if they smell? GK: No

Non-payment of a deposit is a repudiatory breach of contract (time being of the essence), including in relation to an option agreement. But maybe not in a tenant's option to purchase a reversion? See IAA Vehicle Services Ltd v HBC Ltd [2024] EWHC 1 (Ch) bailii.org/ew/cases/EWHC/…
