Apropos of absolutely nothing, apart from the fact the USA are playing ATM, a 2010 piece about USA 1 England 0 in 1950, and the fake photographs that supposedly depicted the goal by Joe Gaetjens, later arrested and killed by Haiti's secret police. sportingintelligence.com/2010/06/08/fix…

@pcaseysafc Not sure what you mean by contradictory statements: loads of pissed Scotland fans but always (in my limited 4/5 years on that beat) peaceful. Whereas covering England was always genuinely crap; a minority of properly menacing dickheads

@sportingintel Well you’ve replied twice with two somewhat contradictory statements but you can only judge what you have seen. Personally seen numerous absolute radgepots so I’ll continue to steer clear.

Scotland fans enhancing their reputation yet again at a major international tournament. Collecting $10,000 for a kids' cancer unit on Rhode Island, where many Tartan Army are based. Loved covering Scotland in the Noughties.Inebriated fans, always, and no hint of trouble, ever.
Mayor Brett Smiley@PVDMayor

Today, the city was honored by the Tartan Army in the form of a $10,000 donation to the Hasbro Children's Hospital as a thank you for our city's hospitality during their stay for the World Cup. We are so thankful to the Tartan Army not only for their donation as it will leave a legacy to the Providence community long after they have gone but also for their decision to call Providence home during their time here.

@pcaseysafc Lots of really REALLY pissed Tartan Army, always, but never anywhere remotely close to the menacing minority of hooligans with England when covering from 1998 onwards

Pretty sure I first got into the Faith Brothers because they supported The Alarm somewhere. Not sure how I got into Wire Train. Or the Escape Club (Rescue Me). I've got 200 albums, and 500 singles, and no record player!

The great clearout continues into week 6 or 7 (moving house after 20 years) and today included sifting my vinyl and VHS music videos of the 1980s. The Alarm live at UCLA in 1986, the same year they supported Queen at Wembley ahead of INXS, who were fourth on the bill.

@Steigs Yeah, that was sad. Great campaigner on so many things for so many years. My older brother, who loved The Alarm 10 times as much as I did, went to his funeral.

Yeah he played in the 1962 tournament but was injured against Czechoslovakia and missed the final. At the time, only players in the final won winners' medals. He didn't get one. Retrospectively, decades later, the medal rules changed and he got one.

@sportingintel Didn’t he play in 62 but got injured early (first game)?
