Spent three nights in Khao Yai National park: what an amazing place! It is practically bursting at the seams with wildlife. Some pictures of the flora and fauna to follow, it is going to be a long thread... 1/

@liberal_guilt Wow, an amazing array of birds, and great photos! We also saw a hornbill yesterday! at the San Diego zoo.. :/ Didn't manage a good photo, so here are a couple favorite other birds: Cock of the Rock and Secretary Bird!

This particular specimen is a girl - she has a blue sack; the boys have a yellow one. Here's a video of her sitting on a fig tree branch. Her boyfriend is just out of view to the upper left... 24/

Went to Wat Phu Tok near Bueng Kan. Wat Phu Tok is a "temple" or a set of temples hewen out of a piece of rock, with wooden walkways all around, with seven levels all in all.

Saw this guy there: it turned out to be one of the world's largest centipedes (en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scolopend…). This particular one seemed somewhere in the range of 10-12 inches long

Yesterday went to Phu Phrabat, a site of ancient ("pre-historic," which in this case means 3000 year old?) human dwellings and religeous scuptures. The guidebooks said "improbably balanced rocks," which seemed like an apt description

Was sad to return the bike after a 9-day rental. It was a 350cc beast, not entirely comfortable, but lots of power and zip. Someone else rented it immediately

Last day in Chiang Mai before heading south and then east. Went to see the Bhubing Palace (of which you can only see the gardens). Saw this little guy there again: seems to be enjoying the flowers

@liberal_guilt What's weird is that the Japanese doesn't say anything like the English, more like "I scolded the dog".. ok and I tried Google Translate on the Chinese and Korean and they say that too! 😂

Back in Chiang Mai now. Bike tour is almost over. Some randomness in the meantime

First day of the motorbike tour rode to Doi Inthanon national park, and saw some interesting birds there. These are two different kinds of sunbirds?

Narrator: it was not ready

The "marina of despair" (as someone here called it) has a large egret rookery on the island ("Bird island") 100 yards from the catamaran that is home right now. Kingbirds and kingfishers also can be seen here.

Sailed back to Sopper's Hole in the West End of Tortola yesterday. The problem that was thought to take 3-4 hours to fix here has not been fixed yet. So far, fully one half of the charter days have been eaten up by boat problems. C'est la vie de la mer?
