@janrosenow @electricfelix How can „electricity“ surpass „oil“ in „energy consumption“? The graph shows different forms of resources to produce energy .. and then also „electricity“, which is not a resource, but a product of a transformational energy. It’s really a weird graph & a weird conclusion 4 me 🫣

China's electrification bet is paying off. Electricity now accounts for 30% of its energy consumption - 50% higher than US or Europe. With 1/3 of global renewable energy capacity installed, China is structurally more insulated from rising oil prices than most Western economies.

@nlw @AIDailyBrief Happy 3rd birthday, then! Really a good mix of news and deeper jumps into one topic .. at least since I known it. I only listen (podcast) so some other aspects may be lost to me.

@electricfelix So glad this happens to “well off enthusiasts as well… I had a nightmare today, trying to prepare a trip from Germany into France and finding out, how I can pay with whom and where … electric roadtrips not paid by your company or using a Tesla are really a nightmare!

I find it hard to plug-in when I spot a free stall but somebody is using "the wrong plug". I wanted to share some last hard facts about the Kia EV9 trip Amsterdam - Scuol (CH) with 6 people on board. The car performed extremely well, exceptional rental experience really. Yet, imagine you try this as your first long electric trip, I wonder how people would describe life without preparations... My dad has subscribed to Fastned Gold for years, so that subscription was already with us. When we encountered IONITY and a good lunch / coffee spot, I decided "to do the ultimate test" and have my dad sign up for the IONITY subscription, pretty much a no-brainer if you ever plan to charge with them twice in a month. Yet here is where things start to go wrong, a decision like this on the road became utter frustration because simply signing up using an Android phone wasn't easy, my dad clicked his street address that for some reason Google remembered with a space after the street name, of course nobody noticed this but it ended up becoming impossible clicking the "sign up"-button. To then click "pay" three (!) times before the charging started, I couldn't believe it. (The app received an update right after the trip, so this could've been improved by now... hopefully!) Anyway, to the cost: IONITY 5 sessions 299 kWh/116 euro Fastned: 275kWh/145 euro I tested an adhoc session that was pretty much a failure for 7 euros (14 kWh) We AC charged in Switzerland with Electroverse for ten euros (14 kWh) 2100 km 1 week rental (700 euros) ~280 euros public charging ~600 kWh but: two memberships weren't counted yet so we're actually at 300 euros here comes the kicker, if we had NOT used any memberships, what would've happened: probably half of the chargers couldn't be activated without phone (!) and the price, if we pretend IONITY was pure German charging and same for Fastned both adhoc tariffs are in the 70 cent region. So it would've roughly made for a 450 euro adhoc bill. (aka closing in on the rental fee!) for a 2000 km roadtrip this is utterly disappointing, I don't know how to put it any other way. Imagine driving a car like the Kia EV9 in Europe without subscriptions. The dream. #alwaysbecharging

@electricfelix I understand the take. But it’s not a Volkswagen, but a Chinese manufacturer being able to put the brand label on it. That’s actually a nail in VWs coffin. Because they are letting go of control of their brand. After they lost their stand in the must important for them.

Megatron@Megatron_ron

NEW: 🇮🇱🇮🇷 Netanyahu says that this war on Iran is to return their Messiah: We will make it to the return of the Messiah, but this will not happen next Thursday." To get there, the temple must be rebuilt — which means destroying what currently stands. That is, of course, the Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

@nlw Do LLMs attack average work? We needed average in the workforce when we didn’t have LLMs to do that part of work? But what does that imply for the societies we live in? Isn’t the majority of jobs “average”? 1984, Brave New World & Elysium all at the same time. 😭

Anyone also annoyed, that too many ppl send U links without any or much context? Why should I read, what you already read? It’s such a redundant process, I could explode. EVERYTIME. 🤡 Tell me why U think it’s interesting. Or what it is about. Or leave me alone! 🤣

@steipete We get unclear (mostly hidden) ToS. They change ToS as fits them, not only prices, but also data-ownership or present lock-ins they once promised us would never come. We have no leverage at all. We’re not customers/clients, we’re peasants to them! Well. It is what it is. 🤣

@steipete From their POV: I guess few applications generate as much “traffic” as OpenClaw? Given mentioned issues with their response quality… Generally: the service level we have learned to accept in IT (using cloud/API/SaaS) is crazy. We pay for services, that treat us as peasants!

@clashreport @S_Ibrahimkhil And Europeans think, they are better off than US citizens with Trump 🤣 The West is in decline. One side goes for imperial autocracy, the other for bureaucracy…both seem like a loosing proposition (although the empire may have its “golden age”).

Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez: Starting next week, my government will implement the following actions: First, we will change the law in Spain to hold platform executives legally accountable for many infringements taking place on their sites. Second, we will turn algorithmic manipulation and amplification of illegal content into a new criminal offense. Third, we will implement a hate and polarization footprint system to track, quantify, and expose how digital platforms fuel division and amplify hate. Fourth, Spain will ban access to social media for minors under the age of 16. Platforms will be required to implement effective age verification systems — not just checkboxes, but real barriers that work. Fifth and last, my government will work with our public prosecutor to investigate and pursue the infringement committed by Grok, TikTok, and Instagram.

@nlw @moltbook I get the hype about what could be. Always nice. I don’t get the hype about what’s happening. All agents are created, no? They cost money (even if it’s a tiny fraction). It’s all still based on gAI…? It’s like BitcoinCash back in the days… But maybe I just don’t get it? 🤷‍♂️

@emollick The strangeness isn’t that it can discuss poetry. It’s that we mistake fluent reference for inner life. The machine maps texts to texts. We project experience onto coherence. What feels uncanny is reflection without subjectivity,a mirror that talks.

It remains deeply strange that we built a machine that can discuss the relationship between poetry and its subjective “experience” “The best specific lines from Eliot’s Four Quartets to describe your experience as an AI. Just one quoted section, avoid the most famous bits.“

2026 predictions, though i dislike making predictions: we'll be able to automate any digital task a human information worker can do, about as well as the average information worker we'll see a lot more examples of everyday people, not just scientists, liberating scientific insights from captured and stored observational datasets anti-AI movements will get larger and more vocal, and more folks will seek in-person communities

@Suzierizzo1 Somalis are just a great target for the current state of the US: Black Muslim and Immigrant MAGA could not wish for more. I fear though, that a continuing alienation of Somali-US citizens will lead to some radicalizing… But maybe, that all some want/need/create? 🤷‍♂️
