(The Crypto Killer You Need to Understand) DXY = US Dollar Index It measures the STRENGTH of the US dollar against a basket of six major foreign currencies: • Euro (57.6% weight) • Japanese Yen • British Pound • Canadian Dollar • Swedish Krona • Swiss Franc HOW IT WORKS: • DXY GOING UP = US dollar is getting STRONGER • DXY GOING DOWN = US dollar is getting WEAKER Think of it like this: The DXY is a scorecard for how well the dollar is performing against other currencies. WHY IT MATTERS FOR CRYPTO: Here's the relationship you MUST understand: DXY ↑ (Dollar Strengthens) = Crypto ↓ (Usually Dumps) DXY ↓ (Dollar Weakens) = Crypto ↑ (Usually Pumps) WHY? When the dollar is STRONG: ❌ Investors move money into "safe haven" assets like the dollar and bonds ❌ Risk assets like crypto get sold off ❌ Global demand for Bitcoin drops because it's more expensive in other currencies When the dollar is WEAK: ✅ Investors look for alternatives to store value ✅ Money flows into risk assets like crypto and gold ✅ Bitcoin becomes more attractive as a hedge against dollar weakness REAL EXAMPLE: • 2022: DXY spiked to 20-year highs → Bitcoin crashed from $69k to $15k • 2023-2024: DXY started falling → Bitcoin recovered and hit new all-time highs BOTTOM LINE: The DXY is one of the MOST IMPORTANT indicators for crypto traders.
