Austin Metcalf's Father just called Karmelo Anthony "watermelon felon". I feel for his loss of his son, but this is incredibly racist and only increases racial divides. It’s pathetic that he has to return to this. Watermelon has a long history as a racist stereotype used to mock and dehumanize Black people, especially in the United States after slavery and during the Jim Crow era.

@Csmooth2012 @TalbertSwan Yes I watched the video, I watched several use of force experts. and Police procedure experts. some said good shoot, but dumb tactical decisions, some said good shoot but the words would look horrible to a jury, some said bad. Firmly in the grey area.

He was sentenced to 22 years. Karmelo Anthony, a Black teenager, involved in a confrontation that ended in tragedy was sentenced to 35 years. Whether you agree with every aspect of either case is not the point. The question is why America reserves its harshest punishments for Black defendants while extending greater grace, understanding, and leniency to white ones. Justice cannot be blind if race continues to shape who is viewed as a threat, who is viewed as redeemable, and whose life is considered worthy of empathy. The disparity speaks for itself.

@hapogae001 @TalbertSwan Actually it is, Even if he had punched the KA in the face it is still non deadly force and you are only allowed to use non deadly force only if he was attacked in a sustained manner would it be escalated to deadly force that he could respond to. and even 2 shoves would not count

@TalbertSwan Karmelo life was in danger! Austin shoving him about on the bleachers is NO DIFFERENT THAN someone pointing a gun in your face! The angles of the seats & arrangements make it more deadly if karmelo had fallen, he could have died/broken his neck/head especially as he had epilepsy.

I think is even more tragic, Sonya Massey called the police concerned about a prowler, she was sitting on her couch speaking with the police when they instructed her to turn the stove off. She did as instructed and received 2 bullets in the head for it. Officer got 20 years but may only do 8 1/2 years. But no calls for the death penalty, no hanging rope memes in this case, I wonder why. A big burly officer can believe he was acting in self defense against woman who never attacked him or hinted at attacking him and get a reduced sentence. Classic Americana

@TalbertSwan Actually it was pinning him down with the knee on the shoulder, a restraint technique taught by MPD and later denied, (perjured by the MPD head) at trial. He also swallowed enough Fentanyl to kil 5 people and continued to struggle for 5 minutes overstressing his heart
