@ScienceSprout @adamboxer1 When you employed by a school you are on a permanent contract. The norm is to give a term's notice if you are leaving. The school needs grounds to sack you. And schools pretty much know numbers due to the national curriculum. Electives don't exist like they do in the US.

@adamboxer1 It is blessed. When teachers say 'more teacher autonomy' - be careful what you wish for (what is described also happens in schools). Another blessing if you're in UK is you are not looking in you pigeon-hole every March to see if you have a contract for the following year.

@dailystem @KatyDornbos Oh, fun idea @KatyDornbos ! How would you expect the laser to scatter? Tiny holes in the center foil? And - is it zinc sulfide? Either way, love the visual & idea!

Our chemistry teacher made a model of the Rutherford gold foil scattering experiment so the kids could visualize it more than just a photo on a screen

@KatyDornbos @ChemEd2025 @aserkin @ChemEd2019 @cossettej I did AMTA multi-week workshops for physics & chem, but nothing other than those intensive courses (my first physics one was back in the summer of 2010). I consider it my most valuable physics PD. And, we have our Chicagoland @PhysicsNW + groups around here that I still attend!

@KatyDornbos @ChemEd2025 @aserkin @ChemEd2019 @cossettej They make the HS teacher camp 1 of the days in the summer to cram all of the very practical high school classroom stuff in. So, if you go to any day - that’s the one to go to. But, just a different vibe compared to ChemEd 👩🏻‍🔬

@KatyDornbos @ChemEd2025 @aserkin @ChemEd2019 @cossettej I remember getting some great pedagogical pieces from there, but quite pricey for no “materials” cost. The presentations during the main meeting were much shorter, powerpoint style. So, perhaps not as much of a variety?

As I am preparing for our annual Halloween chemistry show for the elementary, I am curious what #chemed Halloween favorites you have! What are you "must do's" for a Halloween show?

@aserkin @ChemEd2025 You are by far one of the most welcoming introverts I've had the pleasure to meet! Looking forward to seeing you again in 2027. 🤓🧪🎆
