Let’s look at the work @stlCITYsc has done in the last two offseasons (with a consistent year-over-year Sporting Director) to provide context for the anxiety that I know a lot of #AllforCITY fans are feeling. This one’s long & I hope valuable: 2 yrs ago: - 27 players rostered at end of season. - 0 players signed in Nov - 3 in Dec (Olivares, Durkin, Totland) - 1 in Jan (Dyhr) - 1 in Feb (Kijima) - Notes: 6 players under contract at end of season weren’t available at start of 2024 season: Gioacchini, Pidro, Jensen, Stroud, Bartlett, Perez) Last yr - 30 players under contract at end of season - 1 player signed in Nov (Timo) - 0 in Dec - 1 in Jan (Wallem) - 2 in Feb (Morales, Zalinsky) - Notes: 6 players under contract at end of season weren’t available at start of 2025 season (Kijima, Thor, Indy, Blom, Pidro, Pearce) This year: - 24 players under contract at end of season - 2 players signed in Nov (Lundt/Yaro) - 0 in Dec - ?? in Jan - ?? in Feb There are handful of takeaways to me: - The transfer window itself isn’t even open yet (rumors are Jan 23). MLS trades can happen but incoming intl’s can’t be registered until well after camp opens. - We haven’t historically done a lot of work in the winter transfer window - Lutz sent out more than he brought in each winter. By keeping only 24 players, we’ve started the overhaul already. - Looking at a lot of these outgoing, many happened late into the offseason or into camp. And not necessarily for the better to our team. - Having quantity of players going into camp /= a successful season. - Possibly the biggest reminder: the last 2 years were supposedly under a consistent vision, style and philosophy. That’s changed and changed relatively late in the offseason.

The fact that the @MLS is not streaming/televising their own draft which is taking place RIGHT NOW is absolutely insane in 2025. Great way to build fan engagement.
