@MarioBrothBlog @THEocelots118 That's not how OAM for the top screen HUD in Mario Kart DS work. The green shell is not "Icon #00" in either the final game, or the Kiosk Demo You don't know enough about the game to say anything without inadvertently posting misinformation in this case

@THEocelots118 In the top screen, it looks like a Green Shell. This is likely because its item box icon is undefined and the game uses icon #00, with the Green Shell being item #00 in the game. Thank you very much for your inquiry!

The kiosk demo version of Mario Kart DS contains an unused item that appears as the user's own face on the bottom screen. Using yourself as an item crashes the game.

@MarioBrothBlog I know KTRMAmbiance, he's part been part of the modding community for years, and he has no way of confirming the validity of the item IDs used. He's not a programmer, and have never reverse engineered any game logic

@MarioBrothBlog Furthermore, similar instances of character mini map icons appearing in the item slot have happened in the final game through using things like the Real Time Corruptor, or forcing invalid item IDs through Action Replay.

@MarioBrothBlog I'm questioning this has someone who's researched and modded both the Kiosk Demo, and final version of Mario Kart DS for nearly a decade. If this is an invalid item ID, it cannot be considered an "unused" item.

Yup. Lots of generative ML projects are low-hanging fruits -- they don't really bring anything fundamentally groundbreaking to game engine tech. The idea of "applying existing research to X" is cool for a bit, but in this case, it seems unlikely to lead anywhere big. This is far from the level of innovation you'd see from someone like John Carmack, regardless of what some people might believe.
